Now, they don't want a first dance, so the normal ice breaking start to a wedding is out the window, so I'll slowly get them going with some soft rock, maybe like Bon Jovi - Bed of Roses, that sort of stuff, building it up over 30 - 40 mins to the main stream stuff they have asked for.

Now then, I'll be checking with the client this week anyway to see what other stuff they would accept, As I want to try to squeeze some generic 70's & 80's in there, maybe more Thin lizzy, Deep purple and some 70's disco numbers as for 80's I thought the early stuff like Adam & The Ants and more Depeche and stuff like The Mission would be appreciated. Also stuff liek Nirvana, Some more Red Hot Chillipeppers might go down well, basically a few more well known tracks from some of the artisits already chosen.

Bascially, I'm looking for inspiration should the bride not provide me with more insight.
Of course I'll be heavily prompting for requests on the night, by distributing request forms near my setup area and possibly chatting with a few guests during the warmup period to find out what they want to dance to later on.

So, given the above list how would you guys play this one? Would you structure the playlist into any order or just play them randomly(ish)..

Any help would be appreciated here.

Thanks.

Wedding is this coming Saturday 25th Feb.

Headliner....

It appears to me that the Bride and Groom have tied your hands behind your back on this one. I would make one master play list (combine both lists) and begin play as how you see fit. Obviously, you will want to size up the ages as quickly as possible to determine where the majority falls in the decade spectrum. Next, pick a song or two that are customarily played at most of your weddings to see who gets up to dance. You've got to mix up the tempo's too.

I never make a list of what I will play in a partcular sequence. You've got your play list before you, so half the battle is already won. If you are able to add a few requests from the guests then that should help with the flow, too. However, will the bride and groom be checking off their lists as to each song that was played to make sure you actually played ALL OF THEM?

What happens if the songs that the B&G have listed don't bring the people out on to the dance floor in numbers that were anticipated by them? I've been told on several occasions to play ONLY what is on MY list and nothing else. Usually, the dance floor is sparse and guest are yelling from the floor to play THIS SONG or THAT SONG! Then it's only a matter of a few selections before the B&G will tell you to play WHATEVER gets the dance floor loaded.

Hope this helps! For what it's worth, I kind of like the music that was preselected. Although, a steady diet all night long might be a bit more than I could stand. LOL

Later,

DJ Art
