Default CDN90 Numark let me down a little

Well I got my brand new CDN90 yesterday. Plugged it up and wow what a cool unit. I haven't mixed like this since I gave up the SL1200's.
I then racked it and found a ground loop problem with it. damn!
A quick call to Numark and what do ya know! They knew of the problem! The newest run is corrected. They say send it to us we'll fix it and pay freight both ways.
I called the dealer PSSL Yea they knew too. They say send it to them and they will have it fixed.

My question: If Numark knew of the prob and the dealer knew why are they shipping the the bad ones?

If you own a CDN90 a safe fix is to use bushings on the rack screws that mount the control head. This will isolate the control head from the rack rails and your mixer.

THANKS for the info. I am a Numark dealer and had not heard of this one before. Then again I have not sold (nor recommended) this model before either. Let us know how it works out for you..

HI,

We were Numark dealers and gave up the product line...40% was defective right out of the box.

I unfortunately have to agree that Numark is headed in the wrong direction but I NEVER have had the failure rate you mention; just ditching their better proven models while the newer more expensive ones lack the important features of the previous ones. For example: the 1800 series mixers were great for the money but can be had no more. Now, it seems you pay more to get less...

I am presently using the Numark equipment and I like the equipment. My first CD player was the CDN 34S which was defective out of the box. There was distinct difference between the 34 and the 34 S models in that one has a digital output and one does not. The cosmetics look just about the same but the internal circuitry is different so that it could accomodate the digital interfaces. I had to send my 34S back to Rhode Island 3 times in order to have it fixed. What was happening is that the cicuitry would heat up and cause the programming in there to get saucy on you. (it wasn't vented well, but did my share of venting it well to Numark) There were about a thousand of these models made that had an overheating problem. Finally, I had received one that didn't overheat on me. Numark discontinued this model and replaced it with the 36. I finally have a 34S that doesn't overheat and and I also bought the 88 and haven't had a complaint about them since. As for the 34S, Numark has a warehouse full of them and they can't really do anything with them. They do not really know how many were having the heat problem. The 34 model did not have the digital outputs so it was known to have run cooler than the 34S that replaced it.

THANKS for the info. I had 2 of the 32S models that were flawless for the 2 years I used them. These were the little brother to the 34s (ttok less rack space) without some of the "useless" features that many of us old timers never needed. It was discontinued over a year ago and nothing sold by them today comes very close (either you put up with useless features and wasting rack space or you get a cheaper model that will likely skip and/or not read a cdr). Just my thoughts..

All is well now. I too am an "old timer" but wanted to have more tools in the tool box.
I've used it 6 gigs now and love it. New Years Eve I had a blast with it. The cue memory is my favorite feature. No more scanning trough Dire Straits "I Want My MTV" intro!
I'm doing a wedding tonight then Monday I'll ship it off to Numark and have em fix it.

Even with the the defect I feel more confident with reliability than I had with the Denon.
This is because every Numark product I have owned since 1984 is still working!
