Default More Sub Questions

What is the best way to go with a sub, speaker facing down or forward, 15 or 18, built in crossover or rack mounted, powered or non powered, power rating match present speakers or be more and should there be one or two used. I am asking al these questions so I can learn and get the best for my needs. I do mainly Wedding Receptions, no heavy school dances, but would like to add a touch more low end.

I would get a single powered sub 15" for 100 guests 18" for 200 guests. I think the powered subs that have enough power to drive a matching passive sub are cool. You can lug the 2nd for big gigs and they are designed to work together.
That would be the best bang for the buck plus easy setup. I've used the JBL MPro's you won't be sorry.

Normaly you want the sub to have twice the power of your fullrange speakers.
Forget subs with built in passive crossovers. They waste alot of power.

Hi Randy,

For your application a 15" will be fine. Unless you expect to be playing Techno to a few hundred or more teens there's no reason to go up to an 18.

Front firing subs offer better throw and yes, active crossovers are a must.

Look at the SWA 1501 by Mackie...tight, accurate and affordable.
