Let us know how the Yamaha works out, hard to recommend them when no one I know has used them

Hey KJDJ

Were those Mackie repairs the infamous ribbon cables? I would think Mackie would have that fixed by now and I have always wondered why the problem was unique to their "big boy".

Yea! Cold solder joints on the front panel jack and the ribbon cable. The 1400i had the same cold joint prob. but not the ribbon cable prob. ???
It has been fixed for about 2 years now. But they sold a whole lot of em before then.
Latest Mackie news read in a trade: Mackie is feeling the heat of Behringer. They are going to ship some of their manufacturing to China.

Mackie has fixed the ribbon cable problem and to condem a manufacturer for a production problem is unreasonable. I dare say, Ford has recalled more trucks than Mackie has amps and yet everyone still loves Ford trucks.

The assembly portion of Mackie's manufacturing moving to China is simply an effort to keep costs down and remain competitive in a market flooded with cheap reverse engineered knock offs.

As for Behringer, they were sued by Mackie for copyright infringement and lost. So much for being a leader.

Did someone condemn Mackie? I must have missed that one, STILL one of the BEST for the money in my honest opinion.

I do NOT like any USA company moving to China, however, for any reason right now. I DO understand economics though so if they must they must, just wish it weren't so!

Behringer can NOT (yet) compete with Mackie on any gear I know of that both manufacture (except for price maybe, definately not quality)...moving manufacturing to China could change this though..
MADE IN THE USA still counts big time for me, especially when it comes to Speakers AND Amps!!

I have been extremely happy with the Mackie 1400i Amp that Bill of ESC sold to me two years ago (right before 9/11)

Nary a problem so far.

I still have an older EV 700 amp from 1992 (my original amp from 1997) Still works great!

Music Mixers:

I have decided to move my Yamaha Amp to the status of: backup. I will buy a new Amp because I don't like the sound I am getting out of my speakers and I know the Yamaha Club Series speakers can sound a lot better than what I am getting.

The Yamaha hasn't failed me though... i've had it for about a year. I just have to turn up gains and stuff just to get some loudness out of my speakers. But when I do that, I can swear that it sounds a bit distorted.

I want a "good, clean" sound so I am looking at a Crown or a Makie.

SMOOTH MOVE

Can't go wrong with either of those brands in general but I personally do not like the CE series Crown's. I usually use a Mackie 1400i my own bad self, with a QSC PLX if I think I might need the extra power. Hard to beat that Mackie in the price range though!

Just picked up a Crown XLS 602 Power Amp not to be confused with cheaper version of the XLS 602 version. I can't wait till it gets here.

I LOVE CROWN AMPS! I now use Yamaha, & JBL powered speakers to save on load in/out & setup times, but I still have my crown, combined with LTI speakers running through a Rane MM8 the cleanest sound I have been able to attain to date.
