i don't THINK that is right:

there is an l.e.d. level meter on he feedback thing. when i get the music to a danceable level, that meter shows it plenty- even a little more than the one on my mixer. at a normal school dance, when i'm pushing my 300 watt speakers, my gain on my mixer is half way up, with the faders arund 7 and 8. i wish i could go louder. at this time, the behringer shows it's meter is registering plenty of sound.
my mixer does not have an effects loop (i've always wondered what those were...)

Simply An effects loop has send and return jacks it allows you to insert your destroyer say into the signal path some where other than between the main output and your amp.

Some DJ mixers have the effect loop between the channel sliders and the main output slider.

Most PA and higher end DJ mixers have effect loops
in the signal path between the input pre-amp and input faders or between the input fader and main mix bus.
