OK all, I just got my first inteligent lighting. I bought a Martin Acrobat and a Chavet DMX Junior or DMX-6. Now I have no idea what I am doing. I think I have my dip switches set right, but after that I am a little lost. Anyone that could provide some insight into how to set my controller to stand alone mode would be greatly appreciated. Any other insights into this controller or DMX in general would also be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

All controllers are different but most do not have a stand alone switch. After all, you really do not need a controller to operate a stand alone capable unit. When in doubt, READ the manual for the unit AND the controller. Good luck and let us know if you find out the details..

Read the manual for both, it would be remiss to post here without reading first. The Acrobat has a setting that can be achieved by the controller that will allow it to go into stand alone mode. I can get one aspect into stand along mode but I can't get the color and the gobo to change like stand along mode.

Well,I for one have posted before reading so call me guilty, LOL....

I have NEVER seen any stand alone unit that required a controller so I would suggest contacting the MFG. I believe, that like happens way too often now days, that the manual was written by someone who knows nothing about the unit. Stand alone means stand alone (NO controller required). I think the terminology (or nomenclature) is incorrect in your case. Or, perhaps, the unit was designed to work specifically with it's own specific controller as I have also never seen a controller with "stand alone" options built in..

So, you have me baffled (not too difficult really). Let us know if you find the answer...

It is actually more simple than you think. Go with me here, the light will run off of the controller and allow imput and manipulation or run programs that you design, HOWEVER, there is a setting on the controller that will put the light back into stand alone mode while still hooked to the controller. That way if you want to light to go to stand alone mode, but still want to be able to take over with the controller if you want you can do just that.

Jamie~ Sounds like how our lighting works. We have two of the American DJ Pocket Scans with the DMX controller. You have all of those capabilities and more once you get the controller. I havent gotten to play around with any martin lighting but looking forward to it once the dj store here gets all set up with them Good luck with your lighting, they sound light nice lights !

My lighting still doesn't work properly. I have an email in to Bill about buying more lighting, and a different controller. I am not using a DMX cable yet, I plan to, that may be my problem.

Is it a three pin or six pin DMX cable ? The lights we run are just using standard three pin xlr cables. Works great!
