I own two iPods Photos and I create the mixes and or music friles from my own music then upload them onto my units. I also upload and/or sync my emails, contacts, and even my master music list via a 3rd party software onto the iPod just as my PDA unit.

I have never downloaded music so I don't have the issues you speak of Jim

I don't download music. A wise man stated my position perfectly: I like to be in control and know what I'm getting. Downloading someone else's idea of good quality may leave you with a less than ideal product.

I download only one or two songs at most but if you think about it, how much in control are you of the quality at the record store?

True, the music file created is only ever about as good as the source that it is made from. However, you do have greater control and flexibility over the files during the creation process as opposed to using the lower-quality files that are being peddled on most of the download sites to #1) save on bandwidth and #2) reduce the download time for those that are still using dinosaur dial-up.

But everyone has their own preferences... so to each their own.

I recommend avoiding them.

Napster.

Costs 79p ($1) per track. This also allows the downloader to make at least one copy to CD and one other PC system.

Since Weddings in the UK are classed as Private and/or Domestic functions, the powers that be have no power over licensing issues.

Which is good, however I am obtaining a Digital DJ License very soon, which will cover me in the rare occassion I might be contracted to work for a private party, but in a public venue.

I-tunes first, Napster second. I'd rather have the song the client wants than worry about sound quality. The download services are good enough to get me through the event.
I too have never had a sound complaint.

I agree with Brian.

The control part is the ripping. In my case I encode to MP3 and try to balance quality vs. space.

Brian, you're using lossless, right?
