Although I have had no problems with using a Computer based system I always have my MPCD3 player in the rack on standby.

Even if it's a simple power break, when it all comes back on the CD can be started within seconds, the PC takes around one minute to be fully useable.

I got the MP3 versions of the CD unit so that I could create themed back-up CDs for gigs, but I have never done so sue to the reason I never have to use it period. I just take a total of 7 CDs to all my gigs.

One is the latest NOW album, featuring all the current and most recent hits, and the other is a DJ Only CD set of 5 CDs covering lots of danceable music.

Touch wood, never used em and hopefully never will.

Jim the current NOW album over here is NOW 61.

What tracks are on the NOW 19 you guys have, I sure hope it's a different numbering system you use, as NOW 19 was out in the early 90's over here.

Have never had a blue screen or anything. maybe just a bad HD? I did have another external 250 that crapped out after 6months though. Now im scared....Back up is also on a maxtor.

I know Now 5 was released here in 1985. LOL

The original Now Album was first released somewhere in the very early 80's.

I have some on Vinyl, Tape and CD.

Well...
Last night I did my first event as a Computer DJ and BINGO...it took an hour and a half to get the Blue Screen of Death on MS Windows XP

After that, I could never get the computer to boot past the opening screen where it shows the type of comouter, memory test, etc

I am told that my funky keyboard may be the issue (most of the keyboard functions did not work properly)

FOr those that wonder, I am using PCDJ Red for now.
I have spoken to manufacturers who "off the record" would never install a PCDJ product, period...

We use Atomix MP3 and it has not crashed since I bought it in 2000 -- five years and many, many events without a single glitch.

$69 for the software at http://www.atomixmp3.com

They have an upgrade, but don't use it unless you have to do video or Karaoke as it isn't as stable...

We have several systems:

System #1: Rack mount PC from DJRAK (the best in the business) with a UPS in case I pull the cord out of the wall by accident

System #2: I use the Gigbox from PCDJ (and that's the only thing I use from them) and a stable laptop devoted to DJ work. It has never failed.... Since I'm using a laptop, power is not an issue -- in fact, a few months ago I was running on batteries for the first hour because I forgot to plug in the laptop.... Inside the gigbox is a USB hub, USB hard Drive, USB Soundblaster, mixer, and light controller. I'm up and running in about 10 minutes.
