Thank you Jim for allowing me access to your forum. Spending hours reviewing past postings has provided a much clearer picture of your membership, their styles and attitudes, and the eagerness levels with which all approach their businesses.
As Digital application continues its technological drive into the root future of our industry, more questions of the nature we are currently seeing regarding DJ computerization are inevitable, from "What's a computer?" to "Why Linux?".
This leads to another "Where are you now?" question. Perhaps responder's answers will help DJ Source members quickly ascertain who might best help with a specific issue, ask a question to overcome a fear, or just shoot the technical bull.
1) Are you using digital music technology in your performances?
2) Music? Karaoke? Video? Other?
3) Are your exclusively digital?
4) For how long?
5) Do you bring other media forms for backup such as records, tapes, CDs?
6) If not exclusive, what estimated percentage of digital music do you play during an event as compared to your other on-site available media formats?
Feel free to add your own individual concerns and/or attributes that directly point to the digital DJ world.
"Good" or "bad" are opinions, which is not being requested.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE</div><div class='quotemain'>1) Are you using digital music technology in your performances?
YES!
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE</div><div class='quotemain'>2) Music? Karaoke? Video? Other?
Music - Video - Other
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE</div><div class='quotemain'>3) Are your exclusively digital?
No - I'm not exclusively anything... I look at each method of mixing as a tool in the mix - vinyl-CD-tape-Mpeg-Flac I have days I go out and only use computer others only CD on rare occassions vinyl and its been many years since I atempted a tape event lol... It's all about a creative and unique mix and utilizing the tools available.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE</div><div class='quotemain'>4) For how long?
Since Black & White Laptop not notebook days
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE</div><div class='quotemain'>5) Do you bring other media forms for backup such as records, tapes, CDs?
When I was deep into CD mixing my systems always had two-dual DENON CD players - When vinyl was my method of choice I always had three or four 1200s at the event - back-up is a good thing no matter the format
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE</div><div class='quotemain'>6) If not exclusive, what estimated percentage of digital music do you play during an event as compared to your other on-site available media formats?
Depends on the event...

No, no other media forms (records, tapes, or CDs) available on-site nor the needed equipment to play them (or so I'll tell people .)
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE</div><div class='quotemain'>6) If not exclusive, what estimated percentage of digital music do you play during an event as compared to your other on-site available media formats?
1) Are you using digital music technology in your performances?
Yes, since February 2004
2) Music? Karaoke? Video? Other?
Music for now. Would add Karaoke if I could figure it out. No video but I'm open to it.
3) Are your exclusively digital?
Not yet.
4) How Long?
6' 4"
5) Do you bring other media forms for backup such as records, tapes, CDs?
Oh Yes! Even though I haven't had any computer problems I still need that safety net.
6) If not exclusive, what estimated percentage of digital music do you play during an event as compared to your other on-site available media formats?
I have maybe 30 to 40% of the tracks I need ripped to the HD. I work on it almost every day.

I hope you are ripping on more than one machine Bill, it cuts the time in 1/2.
If you think audio is fun to rip, try video and tag it yourself track by track.

Hey Rick,
I'm only ripping music on one machine.
I'm hoping you'll give me the 411 on computer based Karaoke some day.
Video is too far in my future to think about right now.
