I recently got a laptop, a Dell Inspiron 5100, I also purchased a Sound Blaster Extigy External Sound Card.

I installed DJ Power, by the second song "skipping" takes place, some times severe, (5-7 sec jump) sometimes limited (1 sec)

If I remove the sound blaster, I still get limited skipping the odd time with the internal sound Card.

Now for what I have done.

I installed PCDJ, no issues.

So I start removing unnecessary software. I found a link at another site on how to cut back on resources. ( I have the laptop with the SB using a total of 34 resources now)

And still the skip.....

What am I missing.....

Glenn,

Is it an issue that is recurring? When you do the exact same thing every time you get the same result?

What are you using for an operating system?

As you say recent, I'm guessing XP?

My lookup showed the following specs of the dell...

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE</div><div class='quotemain'>Processor type Intel Pentium 4
Processor speed 2800 MHz
RAM installed 512 MB
Dimensions (WxDxH) 33.5 x 27.5 x 4.65 cm
System weight 3.69 kg
Travel weight (with AC adapter and external peripherals) 4.26 kg
Display size 15 in.
Graphics chipset ATI Mobility Radeon 7500
Internal spinning media drives HDD; CD-RW/DVD combo drive
Hard disk capacity 40 GB
Hard disk rotation speed 5400 rpm
LAN connection Broadcom 440x 10/100 Integrated Controller; Dell TrueMobile 1180 WLAN Mini-PCI card (802.11b)
Battery rating 6450 mAh
Standard warranty 1 year collect & return
Other features / comments integrated antenna supports both 802.11b and 802.11a connections
[/b][/quote]

Is this accurate?

I wouldn't think this to be a slouch!
Of course knowing from experience, software doesn't always load properly, and may require a re install. Windows XP, I have loaded several times on the same machine, and ended up with different configurations each time. Once my zip drive was C:\ and my Primary drive was D:\. That was fun!

Great!

Next questions are... how full is the main drive?

have you downloaded the latest drivers directly from the Creative for the extigy?

& did you install all the windows updates?

I am updating my mp3's currently 45gig on laptop, but will be eventually moved to an external.

All windows updates except DX current version 8.1

From another site I am reading DJ Power is having a major issue with Extigy sound cards.... they are supposedly working on the program.

I called Cindy yesterday, but was told I would be gotten back to...

Sounds Like you've found your issue!

Be careful with filling the drive too full, as they begin to lose performance over %50 filled. Obviously if you were at 55G you'd have a problem.
