Hey guys,

Hope one or more can help with this one. Just installed PCDJ RED, version 5.3 on a new computer. Everything is working fine EXCEPT I get errors no matter how I configure when I try to rip CD's. In fact, the cd's won't even play in this program. The data base works and retrieves all the info so the cdrom (external usb) is being recognized...

I have read the manual, the FAQ'a online at pcdj.com and their forums. Have found NOTHING concerning win 2k pro which I am using. I guess the whole world just about has gone to XP but I tried that last year for months and got tired of the crashing so went back to win 2 k.

I have tried the patch for XP they say is required but my system will not allow it to be installed, saying "you are not running win2k or xp" so it terminates the install.

Does not matter if I try ASPI or any of the others in config, I get a different error depending on which I try; none of them work.

Used a high end audio card (waveterminal 192L) and all hardware checks good. I can get audio out by using a different program.. playing the cd via windows or roxio....

All I can think of is software conflict but have no idea where to start....Anyone have any ideas?

THANKS

Les

UPDATE: on a whim I tried going with internal cdrom and it now works. BUMMER, I really needed the space for removeable hard drive! Will try external hard drive I guess...

First I would dump 5.3 and get 5.2.
Just reinstall of the cd and then install the 5.2 update.
If you don't want to wait for Visio to open tomorrow, PM me and I'll send it to you.

I just loaded a system with 2kpro and had no trouble with ripping.
Odd though, I didn't think Red would utilize and external rom.

I'm sure many here will much prefer Audiograbber instead though.

Your call,
R

Hi guys

I downloaded that 5.2 update and it seemed to install but the "about" program says it is still 5.3. My cd is 5.3

Using the website I think I would have to download the demo first then update to get pure 5.2 and am not sure license would work, so if you know if it will or not fire away.

Rick, the external drive will not work properly, I had to go internal to get the thing working. ONLY the cddb feature would work and nothing else. Tell me more about audiograbber please, what would I need to do different and what makes it a better option? If that would work with my external drive that would be a big reason.

THANKS for the replies.

Les,
I didn't realize 5.3 was distributed in hard copy. If it is that may be a problem to go back.

I'm sure there are others here that can unscrew this mess better than I can as far as licence codes and versions. I didn't think the demo unlocked, I thought you needed the whole program. I started with 5.1 in hard copy, so I don't really know.
If not, a call to Visio is in order I guess If nobody else here offers input.

The tags in Red are proprietary to the program in some ways, some fields don't show with other programs.
Audiograbber tags are universal and standardized for use with any program.
http://www.audiograbber.com-us.net/download.html
I don't think audiograbber will care what the source is, it is a stand alone program.
I have just gone over to this myself from Red and haven't needed it yet.

I have never been able to rip with my external. Ryan told me a while back that it would not work.

Rick

After researching the pcdj site this version came with the latest DAC2 controllers, it was not the demo. It only addressed minor isses with the controller and is not available for download. BTW, if anyone wants the new unused DAC shoot me an email as I do not intend to use it.

I have noticed a boat load of information concerning newer programs so will likely attemp using the audiograbber in case I want to switch later on. So far, this system is rocking HARD and I am really enjoying it. I built a Shuttle SFF with a 2.8gb P4, a gig of PC400, a 250gb HD, waveterminal 192L sound, dual output video card and NO EXTRA cooling fans. Have let it run for days to test stability and am just surprised. Nothing has gotten past warm. That liquid cooled CPU cooler hooked direct to smart fan is keeping everything in the case cool, another real surprise. My only concern is the small 220 watt PS but guess that is likely more than a laptop.... It is the part that gets warmest by far and I suspect will be the weakest point in the system.... Thinking of going rack mount in a short while, having hell finding cases shorter than 17" in depth at a decent price though.

Hey THANKS a bunch for always trying to help, it is sincerely appreciated. Ever need a light effect I will hook you up!

Les,
Man are you following my path or what?
Nearly idendical equipment as you list, only w/2 250 maxtor ata drives.
The case I used was this one:
http://servercase.com/miva/miva?/Merchant2...ategory_Code=MS

Fits sweet with plenty of room for air flow and wiring.
The loaded weight came to 25#'s after building.
The shipping weight includes the double wall box which is huge.

Hey Rick

From what I know of you so far I have NO PROBLEM following you, LOL.... That case is what I have been looking for so THANKS AGAIN! So, what board and processor did you go with? Did you go with any of their power supplies or fans? Any other advice or suggestions are sincerely welcome.

I am thinking I will order one of these cases right NOW, just to be more comfortable on the dependability issue AND getting to use 2 drives WITH the internal CDROM...
