Stan,
Do you run seperate Power Cable to each cabinet on each side or do you run one cable to the sub and then power the top from the sub?
I think it was Rick that suggested he does it this way.. makes a good point, if you have the ability to mount a main outlet into the sub for powering tops...
I wonder is incorporating 5-way XLR's to the sub would help then fitting an output 3-pin XLR up to the top?
This would mean one power cable for both cabs and one XLR from amp.. also a shorter XLR lead for the tops.
How many o fus Digital DJ's create custom units which are quite diverse from one another yet always use the same old Std plugs, sockets and cables..
So long as you leave the std connection present to be used if needed, more DJs should experiment with custom multiple pin connections and looms to cut down on load-out and setup time.
Sorry if I'm going on a little, it's now 8:26am and I aint slept yet

I bought power connectors from PSSL and mount them into the sides of my cases and wire them to my power dist systems inside case. From my mixer, I run outs to XLR panel mounts AND 1/4 inch outs that are mounted in the case also. (So I can run to my powered's or Amp and speaker...whichever I want)
Do my own soldering and wiring so it's basically plug-n-play.

We have developed over time a very quick and easy setup. It is very custom but has held up the last 2 years with no problems at all.
Our DJ division uses Mackie 450s and 1500 subs. We loomed our XLR signal cable and a 16/3 SJO cable together every 2 ft. using large shrinkable rubber tubing. We then soldered the elusive IEC female power connector on the end of each 16/3 cord. So we have one loomed cable that easily rolls and unrolls to power one cabinet per side.
Then comes the fun part. Due to Mackie's INFINITE wisdom, as many of you know they did not put a loop thru power connector on either speaker. We made our own short 5 foot cable that has an IEC male input that Y's out to a Female IEC that plugs into the sub and the other 5' long part of the Y that has a female IEC that plugs into the top Mackie 450.
Total setup time for our system is basically 10 minutes. Tear down in 6.
Another thing that many people forget is the transportation part. We load all our gear on 6' long 4 wheel dolly plates that allow us to bring a complete sound and light system in one load.
Rick I do have a good solution for the DJ lighting too. I will have to spend some time taking pictures to better illustrate all of this.

Jef,
That's great, love to see what you come up with.
Vegas on?
Did a combo gig Tues where video was the call for the night, played only one audio and that was the Casper slide. Loving that for sure.

Just for the info on those who might be looking for the ELUSIVE female IEC in line plug/sockets...
I use these all the time and stock them here,, OK, so I'm in the UK.. But I'm flying out to the USA next month...
If anyone want some, let me know and I can check my stock for you.. I don;t carry too many at any given time so might have to pick more up.
These types are Screw Connections throughout, though can be soldered as well if you wish to solder after tightening the screw down. Each one has the strain relirf strip and sleeve.
Rated at 6A / 240V AC if I recall correctly, which would give close to 12A/13A @ 110V AC for US use.
These are Cheap at approx: $1.50 each
If anybody wants/needs any I can bring them over and mail them from within US.
Ok, back to Topic.

:s&i Clearly a number of you have made setup an "art form", pardon the pun. Perhaps some of you will be able to point to a few steps that can be changed in my setup procedure, but here goes:
:cry (Note. all speakers are self-powered. Subs do not have pole mount capability.)
1 - Place subs (15" 400 Watts) on speaker stands (milk crate w/platform screwed to the bottom of milk crate, turned upside down so opening is on floor) One on each side of 6-ft banquet table.
2 - Open speaker tri-pods (Quick-Lock), match same leg width; adjust for proper height; place behind subs.
3 - Place Main Speakers on tri-pod.
4 - Open CD/Mixer case, place top of case on banquet table and mixer on top of case.
5 - Place power strip beneath table.
6 - Plug CD/Mixer cord into power strip.
7 - Take Left Main Spker power cord and plug into Left subwoofer. Take Left subwoofer power cord and plug into power strip beneath table.
8 - Take Right Main Speaker power cord and plug into Right subwoofer; Right Subwoofer power cord and plug into power strip beneath table.
9 - Take 4-ft line (XLR) cord from Left Main Speaker (input) and connect to Subwoofer (output); take 15-ft line (XLR) cord from subwoofer input and connect it to Mixer left output.
10 - Take 4-ft line (XLR) cord from Right Main Speaker (input) and connect to subwoofer (output); take 15-ft line (XLR) cord from subwoofer input and connect to Mixer right output.
11 - Place wireless receiver on table.
12 - Connect wireless power supply to power strip beneath table.
13 - Connect wireless 1/4" jacks from wireless system to Mixer Mic-1 and Mic-2.
14 - Power-up CD/Mixer; subwoofer and main Left side, subwoofer and main Right side. Ready to play music.
15 - Skirt banquet table to hide cords (stick pins) or velcro. Banquet tables are provided by venue. So one may have the old style rubber edge or new white plastic edge.
The above set-up is for System A and used at wedding receptions.
However, because I also play mint-condition 45 vinyl ("oldies") and Retro Hits that I don't have on CD, I add to the above setup one (1) turntable. Plug left and right RCA jacks into CD/Mixer, attach ground cord from turntable to CD/Mixer, plug power cord into power strip beneath table. Oh, forgot, set turntable base on turntable top for added height!
:krazy
Of course, none of the above responses told of how they set up other systems they have that may take more time...for bigger venues.
"Less Mic, more music for dancing."
"Still spinning after all these years."
