PVDJ DIGITAL AUDIO INTERFACE™ REMIXES DIGITAL AUDIO IN REAL TIME

Jan. 15, 2004, ANAHEIM, Calif.-PVDJ, a division of Peavey Electronics Corporation, proudly introduces the new Digital Audio Interface (DAI), the first hardware and software package to allow DJs to remix in real time. This exclusive, far-advanced audio interface is also truly stable, a landmark achievement in digital audio technology.

The DAI will play and mix .MP3, .WAV and .CDA audio files and includes all the controls needed for real-time remixing, including jog wheels on either side of the controller that can be used to create scratching-type effects. In addition, the DAI will automatically find the nearest beat when setting a cue point or mixing tracks.

The user-friendly, intuitive DAI controller is separated into two players, with a touch-sensitive screen between them that shows the current track playlist with track progress bar and BPM counter. Tracks can be sorted by artist, title or BPM (ascending and descending order). The on-screen keyboard allows quick song retrieval by automatically narrowing the search field as you type.

Built-in "Grabbing" technology allows one-button-push looping, with adjustments for moving the loop backward and forward one beat at a time. The user can also lengthen or shorten loops on the fly, allowing for true real-time remixing. This grabbing function always exits the loop at the end of the measure unless the user tells it otherwise.

The DAI also includes an Auto Pilot feature with fully automated mixing and tempo matching. This acts as a helping feature and eliminates dead air between songs. Auto Pilot detects the end of the currently playing track and mixes in the next song automatically, aligning the beats and matching the tempos. Auto Pilot only kicks in during the last 15 seconds of a track and can be left on as a safeguard without interfering with the unit's other controls.

The DAI controller works in tandem with its companion PVDJ software package, which is built around a 56-bit audio engine. The software requires no additional drivers-it runs using existing Windows or Mac OSX drivers. The DAI is a true "plug & play" interface; if either the USB or power cord is unplugged, the DAI will pick up exactly where it left off once the cord is replaced, without rebooting.

The PVDJ Digital Audio Interface will be available in Q2 2004 from Authorized PVDJ Dealers.

Features
· Four XLR balanced outputs
· Microphone input

Three questions:

1)When can I buy one?
2)Who do I make the check out to?
3)Where do I send the check to?

Brother Jam -
Is this the Big Secret?

I went to the website but it did not offer much information. Is it stand alone?
Is the software also stand alone or is it like American DJ unit?

So many questions...... and the price of almost $1,500 - Wow!

I'll say this - very simple layout and look. Simple is good.

Thanks Jam

Yes, You still need a computer with USB to operate. But it gives much more "on board control" than previous controllers and a much more powerful software WITH VST plugin capability so you can use virtually any VST plugin. Think about it. NO BBE in your rack because it;s built in, EQ, Comp/Limit, and more.

Yeah, its pretty cool. The british guy demonstrating it enjoyed talking down to DJs that were interested in it, that was kind of a put-off to all that I talked to. Its a nice, tight little unit from what little I saw. I was just breifly touching base with the most interesting booths today so I plan on exploring it further tomorrow. The built-in monochrome LCD display leaves a bit to be desired but thats to be expected from a small built-in display. You can still optionally use your monitor which is a muchbetter choice. The controller itself is VERY responsive. I'm eager to explore the softwares capabilities. What was demo'd were just the basic cue, pause, play , search type of functions. He spoke of but didnt really demonstrate the advanced capabilities such as looping (grabbing he called it). The auto-pilot was very good with automated mixing and tempo matching.
Theres a microphone input which was touted to make an external mixer an option but the controller has no crossfader which kind of makes it not an option. He told one interested DJ that "I talked to hundreds of DJs during development and you're the only person that thought a crossfader would be useful"

Don't need no stinking crossfader...

Remember it's a PEEVEEE!

And why did they go get BRIT to demo here in the USA!

I think we would have more decent DJs right thur in CA to do the demo than there are on the entire British Isle!

Oh yes, what a GREAT way to promote relationships with potential clients...TALK DOWN YOUR NOSE AT THEM!

Here's $1500! Now can you tell me again how stupid I am?

Some people hyped this so much I was expecting something big, but what do we get?

The usual blah blah, nonsense specs and utter useless info..

I really do not see how or where this is a groundbreaking and 'far-advanced' product.

For the same price I buy two S3000 decks from DENON.. no doubt those kick this piece of overpriced junk's *ss big time.

This is DJ gear designed by people with musical instruments in mind, _NOT_ DJs.

Next...

You can put any sort of controller you want on the screen

Extra buttons, sliders, knobs, cross fader etc
It's all up to the software using it

example to find songs it has an on screen keyboard for find as you type in the record case
