$1500 Yikes???
I paid more than that for my biggest Amp.
I paid more than that for my fist PCDJ Computer. (without the software )
I paid more than that for my LCD projectors.
I paid close to that for the notebook I'm typing on right now.
$1500 (MSRP) is not THAT bad for a peice of quality equipment to use to make my shows stand out amoung the crowd.
DJ's keep bitching about "how do we compete with the kids with a notebook and downloaded music"?
The tools you use and the education of your clients into how YOUR professional equipment compliments your vast musical knowledge and playing skills.
If two taxi's pulled up to you at the same time and one was a banged up Geo Metro that wasn't very nice on the inside and a young driver in bluejeans and a t-shirt and a sign on the door that said $1.00 and the other cab was a Lincoln Towncar, the interior was plush and the driver was in a suit with a sign on the door that said $5.00. Would you take the Geo?
Some would say "Yes" it will get me there, but others will say "NO, I want to get there in style"!
Well boys and girls, I'm the Lincoln. And quality cost's more.
These are the tools that make me "Worth" what I charge. This plus my skill and knowledge. These tools give me the edge over my closest competitor. In Northern Colorado, I'm still the ONLY DJ to play from computer. Do I use this as a marketing tool? You bet.......And it works. People will actually book me because of what the computer offers. For those that are already PC DJ's, you know what I mean.
Does this mean I diss the CD jocks or vinyl jock's? NO. It just means I can offer something they can't. Speed (of both set-up and looking up songs), cleaner looking setups and a Hi-Tech 21st century "feel and look" to my performances.
I still play the same tunes as before, but with these new tools (all of them not just DAI and Reflex) I do them with new "style" and perform a show with greater ease.
Working smarter, not harder.
If you don't want to spend $1500, or whatever the street price finally is, then don't!
I will because it's a step up from what I have and that step up is one more step up the ladder from those that are not going to make the jump. Trust me people, the CD's days are numbered and those with blinders on will not be able to keep up with those who have already taken DJing to the next level.
Look at the new Numark rig. Dual CD that reads both standard and MP-3 Discs AND has an 80 gig hard drive built in. Do you think the vendors know the times are changing? You bet!
Come on board, jump in the pool, the waters fine, get your feet wet, whatever your cliche". Fact is DJing is changing, AGAIN and if your not on-board, you'll miss the train! Because, I'm going to market myself right past you.
Nuff Rambling...let the bashing begin.

Bash, Bash, Bash!
Sorry Scott, I thought that was an offer
I agree with every word you said (typed, posted, whatever)..
Round my parts we have loads of what you call Bottom Feeders.
I call them "Les Battersby" DJs or "Dodgy Dave Double Decks".
(Les Battersby is a char from Coronation Street, A uk soap for those not in the know)
Now most of these $80 per night DJs, yup I said $80, they gig a full night for $80, why?, how?
Simple they have about £150 worth of gear!!!
Now I promote myself as a professional,, why? for starters I have over £10,000 worth of gear... Ok, I'm pretty broke right now after buying all that lot and I keep adding to it.. 4 more intelligent lights just the other day!
Also I started DJing back in 1987 (was 17 then), where as Dave Dodgy Double Decks only started last week.
I like to give my clients the best show I can.. and if that means almost being a mobile Nightclub, then so be it..
$1500 for Peaveys stuff aint bad, I currently own over $4000 worth of Peavey gear as it is.. though here in the UK, that price could easily become £1500 .. ($2200) I hope not... but eventually I'll be playing out with more Peavey gear. and also have the New Numark product as back-up.
Best of both worlds I think!

Scott,
Right on man.
If I was a developer and had to base my design on the sales of chisseling, cheap DJ's I'd be scared to death and rethinking my career. If a bank looked at that business plan they would laugh I'm afraid.
New technology costs money, and with the mental train of most I see, we will all be riding in the Metro flat tires and all.
Most of these dudes spent more on tuxedos than they have on software and that is holding back technology. Nobody is going to invent a fridge if everybody is just as happy with an icebox.
The whining kills me, most of the programs we know and use are 1/2 baked and disabled by their own design. Some lacking the ability to update and improve. Some basing sales on future ware that continues to be put off. What would you pay for a complete working package? $1500.00 is nothing for what that package delivers, video, karaoke, light controller or not.

What do you think you are getting for $1500?
Do you really KNOW what this product is?
You won't be able to even see a production model until sometime next quarter.
We have three song demos that are very impressive. Are you hearing the capability of the software or the hardware? How will it perform when you are working with the unit for 4 or 5 hours at a time?
Based on three mp3 files and some mock-up images you are so hyped up that you would drop $1500?
We don't have a hands-on opinion from anyone that went to NAMM. We don't even have a real picture of the unit.
Give me a break.
I've spent more than $1500 on amps too. I used two CROWN MacroTech 2400s just for low end. I have 3 PCs dedicated to DJ use plus a laptop backup and two home PCs that also have OTS and all my files installed. I have three SHURE wireless in a portable rack and 4 AT wireless mics. Yep, there is over $1500 in each one of those purchases.
The difference is, I could see, test, and compare all of those purchases, and all of my other equipment purchases. I had the ability to evaluate the quality and value of those purchases compared to my business needs.
Right now, this is a YKES! In a few months it might be a WOW and after an evaluation it might be a GOTTA HAVE. Just not yet.
