First off with you being the parent you do understand that if he is under the age of 18 you are held responsible for any thing that gos wrong when he is performing second if hes not old enough to drive you will need to drive him to his gigs and wait with him till there over and the cost of pro gear that is required to even run a show will cost in the thousands?
If you understand all of this then there is no set age but there is a set level of professional that is expected out of him!

Default My business associate Deejayed since he was 12

My business associate Dan Hyatt has deejayed since he was 12 and has done countless weddings. His skill and talent as a DJ was superb even at an early age and many of the people he did weddings for at an early age rehired him later to do their anniversary parties. (He is now over about 24 or so) I myself didn't start until I was about 18 but I picked it up quickly as I used to play the violin and I used to dance at the clubs so rythm and music were already a big part of my routine.

These days with digital DJ systems many new DJs don't understand the meaning of feeling the music. Learning how to mix by ear, many these days just let software do the job for them either with auto beat match programs or by beat matching the visual wave form rather than the sounds. Real djs call these guys "Wavies" and deejaying in this fashion is a huge mistake. There are natural drawbacks to not attaining the prerequisate skills and without the fundamentals it's impossible to really progress to the higher levels of DJ skill. The levels the superstar DJs achieve. In any case One can be a DJ at any age 3years old anyone? I played the violin starting at age 4.

Deejaying is the same as any other insrument the earlier you start the better, except for the loud music levels which can damage your ears. (you have to teach him to wear earplugs when he goes to concerts, nightclubs and events so he can protect his hearing. Alos to keep his music at events and especially the level of his headphones at a reasonable volume level. Proper crossovers and seperate base bins and speakers can help, music should be felt more than heard. The more damaging frequencies tend to be the high end frequencies.

As far as deejaying professionally, it depends on his level of professionalism. If no one takes him seriously then no one will hire him. He may have to work for someone else at first, or he may simply need friends, dad or brothers etc... to take him to his paid gigs as he probably can't drive alone til a certain age. The important thing for him is when he does get a few gigs to remember to collect the information from the clients and utilize them for refferals so others wil take him more seriously.

Well that's my 2 cents on it.
