JimCasey [/] Nice job on the Digital DJ series!

BillyT [/] Thanks

BillyT [/] I think I’ve maybe 2 or 3 more

JimCasey [/] Cool...

BillyT [/] There is so much to cover its amazing

JimCasey [/] Good info to have though for people like me still on the fence

BillyT [/] I was on the fence months ago

BillyT [/] thennnnn

BillyT [/] I started using a program and now love it

JimCasey [/] The time it takes to put it together is the worst for me

JimCasey [/] Hello Sherry!

firstclassdj [/] Hi Guys!

BillyT [/] its not too bad

firstclassdj [/] Hows it going?

BillyT [/] hello sherry

JimCasey [/] It's all good...Rob is a bit late...he he he

BillyT [/] great

firstclassdj [/] He didn’t fall asleep on the couch again did he?

BillyT [/] hey

firstclassdj [/] Hi Rob..

Rob_Peters [/] I know...sorry I am late...stupid dial up!

BillyT [/] rrroooaadd rrruuunnneeeerrr!

Rob_Peters [/] Ok..tonight's topic is music sets....

JimCasey [/] What kind of music sets?

Rob_Peters [/] Bite your tongue Billy...lol

JimCasey [/] sets

BillyT [/] lol

Rob_Peters [/] Well, music sets you play at events.

Rob_Peters [/] We're going to put a play list together...kind of like a DJSO All Star Playlist...

BillyT [/] Here is where digtial DJing comes in

Rob_Peters [/] Hi Sherri & Matt

firstclassdj [/] Hi )

JimCasey [/] I will say Rob this is a tough one for me...I try not to stick to a list

JimCasey [/] per se

BillyT [/] My program logs all songs I play

firstclassdj [/] we usually draft a rough list, however. We almost never do it song for song ..

BillyT [/] so I can get an exact play list

firstclassdj [/] we work on requests and what seems to be working

BillyT [/] We do the same

JimCasey [/] I do it all on the fly

BillyT [/] I usually set everything up before I get to event

Rob_Peters [/] Well.....I wanted to keep it simple with popular song sets that are played at events....

BillyT [/] Okay

BillyT [/] mony, mony,

BillyT [/] macarena

Rob_Peters [/] Even though you do it on the fly, I am SURE you have a cou-ple of sets you usually play....

JimCasey [/] Ewwwwwww

BillyT [/] I will survive

BillyT [/] funkytown

BillyT [/] play that funky music

JimCasey [/] I don't really...if I did, it would feel like a crutch to me

Rob_Peters [/] Now Jim.....

JimCasey [/] he he he

firstclassdj [/] I like to be prepared.. .I don’t see it as a crutch..

BillyT [/] wait until you get into Digtial DJing Jim

BillyT [/] , songs at my finger tips ready to play with seconds

BillyT [/] notice

JimCasey [/] That's cool Billy!

BillyT [/] Thanks

firstclassdj [/] No plans to go digital.

Rob_Peters [/] That would explain your rendition of the Car Wash....like you are using crutches....

BillyT [/] Don’t know what you are missing

firstclassdj [/] I do.

Rob_Peters [/] Me neither....not yet anyhow..

Rob_Peters [/] I am looking into it...

BillyT [/] anyway when I play sets I try to keep in the same eras

JimCasey [/] Oh Rob...I have to send you a photo that a client sent of me...

BillyT [/] like the 's

JimCasey [/] I truly am a dork in it

BillyT [/] r the 's

Rob_Peters [/] So Billy....why don’t you start with a set. I do the same thing....gives the music more continuity

JimCasey [/] I agree Billy

BillyT [/] okay 's I would play

JimCasey [/] I stay in the same genre/decade

BillyT [/] Splish Splash

P

BillyT [/] the fourth song would be

BillyT [/] something Love Me Tender

BillyT [/] The twist

BillyT [/] may be ritchie Valens La Bamba

Rob_Peters [/] Well, let's expand on that..

Rob_Peters [/] Respect

Rob_Peters [/] Shout

BillyT [/] Yep

BillyT [/] electric slide

JimCasey [/] I play the Animal House Version of Shout

BillyT [/] ymca

JimCasey [/] YMCA I will play at the end of a Disco set...

BillyT [/] I usually play that after a slow song

JimCasey [/] Slide and Macarena are show stopper songs....

BillyT [/] yep

firstclassdj [/] /

JimCasey [/] Gather people on the dance floor

JimCasey [/] etc

BillyT [/] I usually play or songs then a slow one

firstclassdj [/] Depend son the crowd

Rob_Peters [/] Depends on the crown....

JimCasey [/] I go about - fast to slow or -)

Rob_Peters [/] crowd

BillyT [/] I get alot of requests for slow songs

Rob_Peters [/] I feel that slow songs at weddings is a must...but at events like corporate, slow song here & there works

firstclassdj [/] We don't have a 'method' .. If everyone is dancing we'll wait longer to play a slow song.. There have times (at younger events) that we have

firstclassdj [/] not played any slow songs

BillyT [/] I agree Rob

BillyT [/] At younger events I play very few slow songs

JimCasey [/] I will usually wait for a request or gauge when the crowd has had enough (usually after )

JimCasey [/] I have also had weddings where B&G specifically want ZERO slow songs

BillyT [/] Never had that request

JimCasey [/] x last year

Rob_Peters [/] I think breaking it up after a set number of songs is good, because if they are dancing and have been for a while, you are automatically controlling when the dance floor is changing...

BillyT [/] I agree Rob

firstclassdj [/] there really is no set of rules.. i think.. a lot of crowds are different.. some will go for the cheesy stuff, and some just wont

BillyT [/] Chicken Dance

BillyT [/] Hokey Pokey

Rob_Peters [/] and you stand less of a risk of loosing your crowd

Rob_Peters [/] That's true....

JimCasey [/] I have played the Chicken Dance times in + years...Hokey Pokey times

Rob_Peters [/] Just want to find out where people's philosophies are at

firstclassdj [/] Never once played the Chicken Dance! Proud to say

BillyT [/] I play the chicken at every reception

BillyT [/] immediately after the Locomotion

JimCasey [/] WOW!

Rob_Peters [/] NEVER AT A WEDDING HERE....

firstclassdj [/] Very proud to say that.

BillyT [/] Polka music seems to be a big hit here in my area

JimCasey [/] We definitely have differing philosophies for our different geographies

BillyT [/] yep

firstclassdj [/] Sure nuff.

Rob_Peters [/] True...

JimCasey [/] Polka...one wedding...

JimCasey [/] Hi Don

Rob_Peters [/] Welcome to live chat Don!

BillyT [/] hello Don

JimCasey [/] Welcome to DJ Source Online

firstclassdj [/] We try to minimize the 'cheesy' stuff we play.. We don't do electric slide etc unless they specifically request it.

don_osborne [/] hi there

BillyT [/] When I book a client I give them a list of about songs and then they chose what they want

firstclassdj [/] All of our clients are free to choose whatever songs they like.

Rob_Peters [/] If they don't have a preference, I usually try to work it in..it's a good icebreaker....

BillyT [/] They also tell me what they don’t want to hear

Rob_Peters [/] Same here..

don_osborne [/] I meet with them, usually turns out to be or hours lol

BillyT [/] me too

JimCasey [/] Hey Don...we are talking about music sets...if you have any you generally use or your major choices...

JimCasey [/] oops

firstclassdj [/] There are however a few songs that seem to get everyone to dance...

JimCasey [/] didn't see your post

firstclassdj [/] Brick House

firstclassdj [/] All For You

JimCasey [/] Everyone will dance to Unchained Melody

Rob_Peters [/] Play That Funky Music

BillyT [/] yep

JimCasey [/] in my area

firstclassdj [/] yea..

JimCasey [/] There is ONE Rob

firstclassdj [/] Play That Funky Music def.

BillyT [/] celebration

firstclassdj [/] actually

JimCasey [/] PTFM sometimes

JimCasey [/] Celebration about % of the time

firstclassdj [/] we've had Celebrations COMPLETELY bomb

JimCasey [/] Same here!

Rob_Peters [/] I got a request for vanilla Ice the other night...

firstclassdj [/] Lot of younger kids ask for that lately

Rob_Peters [/] True

JimCasey [/] I got one for Milli Vanilli at a wedding last year...they freaking LOVED it!

don_osborne [/] Usually great opening set for me is Celebration, We are Family and then Oh What A night

firstclassdj [/] The obligatory Baby Got Back - Pour Come Sugar on Me... I have NO idea who started that.

JimCasey [/] In a set?

firstclassdj [/] Not together

JimCasey [/] Baby Got Back to Pour Some Sugar?

firstclassdj [/] NO.

JimCasey [/] oh...ok

JimCasey [/] Pour Some Sugar always does great here

Rob_Peters [/] Is anyone else getting requests for old Bon Jovi and Monster Rocks type of songs ??

firstclassdj [/] Does here sometimes

firstclassdj [/] Not a lot

Rob_Peters [/] The past - events have all requested "Livin' On A Prayer"

JimCasey [/] WOW! Bon Jovi...

firstclassdj [/] That’s funny...

firstclassdj [/] That’s totally my era.

JimCasey [/] They are a / proposition here

JimCasey [/] /

firstclassdj [/] Do you have any 'modern' sets that you play?

firstclassdj [/] Current music??

JimCasey [/] Hmmmmm.....

BillyT [/] ride wit me

BillyT [/] dilemma

JimCasey [/] Get The Party Started

JimCasey [/] Can't Get You Out of My Head

firstclassdj [/] like... cent

BillyT [/] jenny on the block

firstclassdj [/] In Da Club.. etc etc

BillyT [/] mesmerize

don_osborne [/] Keep on Dancing, Days go by, then something by No Doubt

Rob_Peters [/] Get The Party Started is always a good set....

JimCasey [/] Don...what area are you from?

firstclassdj [/] Don’t play that

JimCasey [/] I am from Maine

Rob_Peters [/] Hella Good.....

Rob_Peters [/] Into Billie Jean....

JimCasey [/] Is that the Rob Peters special mix of Hella Good?

don_osborne [/] Elkton MD, where Delaware, PA, NJ and MD meet

JimCasey [/] he he he (Inside Joke)

JimCasey [/] I play Hella Good as well

JimCasey [/] Nice mix Rob...

BillyT [/] younger kids here in my area are really into club music

firstclassdj [/] right...

firstclassdj [/] what 'club' music

firstclassdj [/] do you play?

don_osborne [/] I only want to do or things a month and this year I am booking so many may have to turn some down

JimCasey [/] Daft Punk...One More Time (my own mix)

BillyT [/] I subscribe to promo club series

JimCasey [/] Cool Don!

don_osborne [/] I do it on a laptop

BillyT [/] great

don_osborne [/] sooo easy that way

BillyT [/] right

firstclassdj [/] We don’t subscribe. We buy the singles.. Have all the mixes etc etc

BillyT [/] okay

BillyT [/] I get mainstream country and club series

don_osborne [/] I have more and more request for Contemporary Christian too lately

JimCasey [/] Get the Wow series...

don_osborne [/] yea, have a lot

JimCasey [/] Great Contemporary Christian music

BillyT [/] I’ve got one coming and all they want is India music HuH?

Rob_Peters [/] Not alot of that in my area...but I have done a couple of events that have requested it... The WOW series is good...

firstclassdj [/] We don't depend on a subscription series to tell us what’s hot.. We have our own methods

BillyT [/] This show should be good

don_osborne [/] Have one coming up that wants mostly Cont Christian, but I just don’t think people will much dance to it.

BillyT [/] I think your right Don

don_osborne [/] I have a fun wedding coming up where the bride is going to a magic shop and when it is time for the garter, the groom will pull out scarf after silk scarf tied together and then on the end they will tie a rub-ber chicken

JimCasey [/] Wow is NOT a subscription series matt & Sherry...

firstclassdj [/] I realize that

don_osborne [/] Good lead in for the Chicken DANCE ? LOL

firstclassdj [/] I was commenting on the promo only reference

JimCasey [/] Oh....

JimCasey [/] I play Too Many Licks at most weddings as well...

JimCasey [/] by Lil' Kim

firstclassdj [/] How Many Licks

JimCasey [/] Oops

don_osborne [/] almost ALL OF THE GROOMS PICK THIS ONE SONG THAT I SUGGEST FOR THE MOTHER SON DANCE AFTER I PLAY IT FOR THEM.D

JimCasey [/] yes

BillyT [/] I play that at high schools

JimCasey [/] I AM JOKING

JimCasey [/] Could see grandma with THOSE lyrics

don_osborne [/] It is If There Hadn't Been You by Billy Dean

JimCasey [/] Who is Billy Dean?

firstclassdj [/] Is he a country singer

don_osborne [/] Country Star

firstclassdj [/] I think he is..

don_osborne [/] big hit was Somewhere In My Broken Heart

JimCasey [/] In the heart of country music popularity in New England

firstclassdj [/] Not a big fan of country .. but I know enough to get by..

BillyT [/] Don’t feel bad Jim I don’t play much country either

don_osborne [/] It is a great dance for groom and son. Only once person turned it down out of all the weddings I have done

JimCasey [/] Shania Twain's Man! I Feel Like a Woman gets the ladies to dance at almost every wedding

firstclassdj [/] That’s actually true..

JimCasey [/] Keeps the guys far away though

BillyT [/] it's raining men is big here

Rob_Peters [/] True...

BillyT [/] always on my mind

Rob_Peters [/] huge here in Boston...

firstclassdj [/] What’s huge in Boston?

JimCasey [/] Raining Men is a less than / proposition here

don_osborne [/] Hey question...I work with Kelly Clarkson’s Aunt. Is her song very popular at weddings?

JimCasey [/] Not here...

firstclassdj [/] We bought it thinking it might be.. but not as of yet.

BillyT [/] not here either

JimCasey [/] It hardly was played after late September here (the week after she was #)

don_osborne [/] mmm Maybe a hit wonder?

Rob_Peters [/] It's not as popular YET...I have a funny feeling it is going to be popular this season....

firstclassdj [/] We actually played it last night for the first time by re-quest. (at a Bat Mitzvah party)

JimCasey [/] Clarkson is definitely a one hit wonder

firstclassdj [/] I would classify her as a / hit wonder

BillyT [/] It seems to take about months here to become popular

firstclassdj [/] Unfortunately people like familiarity.

JimCasey [/] Well...she did hit # on Billboard's Hot

don_osborne [/] You guys are going to die on this one....... When I was young in Calif, I knew the DeFrancos. Well a few months back, I was on their chat board and this lady in PA wants me to DJ her weddings and wants as many DeFranco songs played as possible

BillyT [/] here is another one Addicted to Love

don_osborne [/] thats Tony Defranco as in Heartbeat, Its a Lovebeat

BillyT [/] another one bites the dust

JimCasey [/] Heartbeat?

BillyT [/] yep

BillyT [/] I remember that song

JimCasey [/] Never heard of it...

JimCasey [/] sorry

don_osborne [/] yea, like # in I think

BillyT [/] yep

firstclassdj [/] the year i was born

don_osborne [/] The year I graduated

don_osborne [/] high school

JimCasey [/] I was

BillyT [/] I had a call to DJ a wedding in Manhattan on a yacht with peo-ple

JimCasey [/] Sherry you’re just a youngin...

firstclassdj [/] Matt wasn’t even born yet

firstclassdj [/] Matt’s months behind me ")

Rob_Peters [/] I was ....

firstclassdj [/] Young'n.. Can people still say that when you're almost )

BillyT [/] I was a sophomore

BillyT [/] I still act like

BillyT [/] okay maybe

BillyT [/] lol

firstclassdj [/] )

Rob_Peters [/] Hang on...since we're getting into the REAL cheesy stuff....what is the Cheesiest request you have EVER played ????

BillyT [/] Now that’s a tough one

firstclassdj [/] Yea.

Rob_Peters [/] I am on the phone with Mike Mahoney.......

BillyT [/] yea

BillyT [/] and

don_osborne [/] A couple that wanted Jaime Got a Gun played when the wed-ding party was introduced.

firstclassdj [/] That’s kind of wacky.

Rob_Peters [/] Fellow New Englander....Mainer actually who played "Tiptoe Through The Tulips"

Rob_Peters [/] AT A HIGH SCHOOL DANCE!

BillyT [/] I play stone cold steve austin glass breaking

BillyT [/] How about Al Jolson

BillyT [/] swanee

>Dan is getting cheap on us!

JimCasey [/] Hmmm....cheesy???

BillyT [/] when the crowd is averaging in there 's

firstclassdj [/] Well, I dunno. My definition of Cheesy may be different than most of yours.

Rob_Peters [/] I got asked to play "I Think I Love You" by the Partridge Family at a Senior Class Prom last season....

don_osborne [/] I get a lot of Wresting music requests at weddings as I do the music for East Coast Wrestling Assn. So a lot of weddings and parties come from fans. My mics are famous, they have been used by all the big name wrestlers

BillyT [/] I hate the unicorn song

BillyT [/] or the purple people eater

firstclassdj [/] OMG. WE don't even HAVE the purple people eater!

firstclassdj [/] )

don_osborne [/] Shut up a your face

BillyT [/] sheb Wooley

Rob_Peters [/] Anyone own a chicken suit ??

firstclassdj [/] NOOOOO

BillyT [/] NNNNooooo

don_osborne [/] I want to buy one

firstclassdj [/] Not a chance of having one either.

BillyT [/] but I do wear thongs

firstclassdj [/] 'Me too )

firstclassdj [/] ha-ha

Rob_Peters [/] Big Balls by AC DC for a cake cutting song....

JimCasey [/] Disconnect...

BillyT [/] I even table dance

firstclassdj [/] I think you offended Jim Billy

BillyT [/] lol

firstclassdj [/] )

BillyT [/] no not Jim

don_osborne [/] Hey its all about fun and a lot of the crowds I do would count on that as a Polaroid moment

BillyT [/] yep

firstclassdj [/] See If I tabled danced it would be a bit different I think

BillyT [/] right

firstclassdj [/] )

JimCasey [/] Login

JimCasey [/] IP...

JimCasey [/] UserList_

BillyT [/] sometimes I even sing

don_osborne [/] any of you dj with a laptop?

BillyT [/] yep

firstclassdj [/] Nope.

JimCasey [/] I do not

BillyT [/] , plus songs

don_osborne [/] do you use an external sound card?

BillyT [/] yep

BillyT [/] extigy

don_osborne [/] what is the purpose of it?

BillyT [/] to go from mono to stereo

BillyT [/] stereo

BillyT [/] its kinda like surround sound

don_osborne [/] does it boost the sound. Last time I SEEMED TO HAVE PROB-LEMS GETTING A STRONG ENOUGH SIGANL GOING FROM HEADPHONE JACK INTO MY Mackie mixer, Kept going into the red

BillyT [/] I have alot more control over the sound with the external

don_osborne [/] without getting the volume I wanted

BillyT [/] There are alot of scenarios

BillyT [/] mixer

BillyT [/] input types

BillyT [/] I find that the sound is way down

BillyT [/] when I output to the mixer the amps pump up what I need

don_osborne [/] I think going into the tape input may be better because the Mackie boosts it like plus automatically

BillyT [/] again every piece of equipment will be different

BillyT [/] I use my line in jacks

BillyT [/] if I use the cd in jacks the music sounds like crap

BillyT [/] because of the volume outputs for the cd players

Rob_Peters [/] Well folks...another hour has passed.....wrapping up our live chat....next week's topic will be posted by Thursday...I need a day or two to fig

firstclassdj [/] Ok..

Rob_Peters [/] to figure out what our topic will be....

BillyT [/] okay

firstclassdj [/] Have a great night all!

BillyT [/] bye

firstclassdj [/] bye

don_osborne [/]I used the headphone out to
