Default Lock up your daughters! Hold on to your wallets! The Democrats are coming to Boston!

If you were a Republican...would you do a DJing job for the Democrats or vice-versa?

Question inserted today by Jim Casey

Boston grabs Dem Convention for '04

WASHINGTON - Boston was unanimously selected this morning to be the site of the 2004 Democratic National Convention, beating three other cities to snare its first ever political nominating party.

Democratic National Committee Chairman Terry McAuliffe called Mayor Thomas M. Menino after the vote, saying ``I've got great news, Boston is the site for our 2004 convention.''

Over a chorus of cheers in his City Hall office, Menino called the selection ``a new beginning for our city.''

McAuliffe said the weeklong convention will be held at the FleetCenter starting July 26, 2004.

State and city officials said the convention will bring an estimated $15 million boost to the local economy and create 5,000 new jobs. It also puts Boston squarely on the map as an international convention city.

``This is a great day for Boston, 2004 will be a great year for our party,'' said U.S. Sen. Edward M. Kennedy (D-Mass.), who, with Menino, led Boston's bid to the national Democratic Party.

Boston was chosen over New York, Detroit and Miami in large part because Menino and Kennedy secured nearly $50 million in public and private financing, far beyond what the other cities offered. The selection came despite some initial concerns among some of the Democratic Party's site selection committee about the city's racial diversity.

The 45-member committee, which visited Boston this summer, voted unanimously at Washington's Capitol Hilton Hotel - with Kennedy and U.S. Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.) on hand.

Kerry, who is expected to run for president and, if he wins the primary, would be nominated in his hometown, said Boston will be a showcase for the world.

``We're going to show America the city upon the hill,'' Kerry said. ``We're so high on this.''

So its John Kerry that gets the honor of being the Democrat version of Bob Dole in 1996 eh?

Personally, I can't wait for the 2008 election when Liz Dole will soundly trounce Hillary Clinton to become the first female U.S. president.

Scott:

Liddy Dole may be too far past her prime to run for President in 2008.

However, Condoleeza Rice on the ticket...that's a dynamic two-fer!

An intelligent articulate Black Woman that Republicans would line up to vote for...imagine that!

Hey John,

I don't think Liz would be too advanced age-wise. Heck, look at Ronnie! Sure, whites would vote for Rice, but would blacks?

Condi Rice on a ticket would force the Black Leadership to once and for all, put up or shut up.

Put your best candidate on the ticket and let the voters have their say.

I truly feel that Condi Rice is worthy of consideration.

So John & Scott,
If the DNC approached you about providing sound and/or Entertainment for one of their after parties, would you do it despite your political beliefs?

I leave this open to anyone to answer too

What would be cool is if there were a Rice/Keyes ticket in '04 or '08.

Let's see the backlash against a combination like that! Two intellectual conservative black candidates on the same ticket. Oh, I can imagine the outrage and condemnation from "African-American leaders"!!!

I think despite being a republican that I could play a gig for a democrat or the party.

I would put my personal feelings aside for one night to make the cash flow! That's just me of course...u?

Jim:

I couldn't do it.

I believe that the Democrats are responsible for most of what ails the country, be it outrageously high taxes, assaults on Constitutional freedoms, a weakening of our defense, porous borders, and an affinity for coddling criminals ranging from murderers to terrorists.

I am totally opposed to everything that this party stands for.

Why would I want to be a party to a celebration of their beliefs and ideals?

Besides, any party involving this convention is going to take place in Boston, and anyone who has been in the part of the city near the Fleet Center knows just how awful and congested it is.

No thanks, I'll let someone else handle the parking and other logistical hassles and have to deal with playing nicey with the Clintons, Kennedy's and other assorted Left Wing fruitcakes.

See...here is the best part John:

I may NOT be a celebration!

Think of it, you could watch them drown in their own sorrow.

OK...event that's terrible but just a silly thought!

DEMOCRATS on the board, please feel free to respond and don't be alarmed. John is a staunch Republican and I am toward the right but not 100% there!
