Default Music/songs & flow ideas

I will be starting in a new club on the 20th. Since it is a brand new club I will be making or breaking it I guess. I guess I sorta have no clue how to even start. The owner just told me to do whatever to make it work. The age group will be 21 to approx. 28. Our local top 40 radio station plays mostly the top 40 r&b but some other top 40. Club is also good here along with some house/hard house, so I thought of mixing these different styles into the night. Do I do a progessive beat night whereas I start off with r&b go into club and finish with hard stuff or do I have some kinda of a mix throuout the evening? I know the young girls like the r&b stuff but I can't play that all night (plus I don't have 4 hours worth of it). I am open for all ideas.

If you can't play RnB all nite, you're screwed!

The hoochie mamas love "classics" like "Don't Call Me Baby" and "Better Off Alone"

Ever since Eminem said "Nobody Listens to Techno"---the 21-28 crowd stopped requesting all techno (which includes trance and house)

Trust me, you need to be subscribed to a top 40/Rhythmic hit service as your crowd will expect the latest jams within 2-3 weeks of your local T-40 debut on the air.

My crowds average age is maybe 24, I do play all club, house, hardhouse, some trance and a set of approx. 30 - 45 minutes of hip hop.

R & B does NOT go over with my crowd and I do not play any rock, but I do touch a bit on some classic disco. But my crowd is pretty progressive. I'm lucky that the owner does not tell me what to play, just make the people happy! So I play requests and what I like and we're all happy!

My suggestion would be, what do you like, what is popular for your area, what type of people do you and the owner want to cater to and go from there.

Bring a good variation of music and take note of what is being requested and what style you get the best response to.

Have fun and good luck! Keep us posted!

This owner is about the same way Sue. He said to play what the girls want to pack the house and make them drink. I know the most requested style is gonna be R&B but I have quite a few clubbers from the old trance/techno/house/club, music club that will be following me. I think everything will be fine, its' just I'm a bit nervous since it has been over 10 years that a club owner just said to me "make them come, dance and drink". All my clubs have told me what style (ie: oldies, rave, 70's) to play and stick with it. I think I'm ready for it. I just need to get some more music videos overnighted to complete my inventory.

My experience with the ladies in that age group...

They love Justin Timberlake's solo tracks, especially Rock Your Body which really mixes well with Another One Bites The Dust...

Also, Christina Aguilera's Dirrty and Fighter
Shakira, Nelly, 50 Cent In Da Club and Magic Stick, Fat Joe's What's Luv all along those lines
