Default Coffin vs. Box

I know with war looming and such this is such a trivial topic, but when I use my coffin with 2 ADJ Pro Scatches & middle 19" Numark mixer, I get more "Can I have your businesscard" inquiries, than when I take along my SKB 8 space 'box' with dual cd players, power cond, amp and small Numark
scratch mixer in a laptop computer case. Is it that people like watching you load cd's? Maybe standing behind a box may seem like youre hiding? I hate lugging around the coffin, it weighs more and its hard on my back. The box weighs alot too but on a handcart, its easy to manuever. I take each system out every other gig and the gigs are varied as well.
Of course, the ADJ Pro Scratch players do more, but I don't use the efx much because
it gets old fast. In fact at weddings, I never use the efx, I just mix like on a dual cd player. Your views---coffin vs. box. shrug

People like to see your hands. If you've ever watched a pianist at work you'll know what I mean. Taking an inanimate object and creating music with it is an art.

We've been using a coffin rig with 8" mixer for a few years now and to be honest, I love it. The buttons on the decks are large and spread out (good for these clumsy paws of mine).

I don't like coffins, as I started out with one and it was heavy.

For years, I've used vertically stacked boxes due to space and weight considerations.

The last three years, I've gone to a SKB Mini Gig Rig. Very convenient, nice looking, professional, and all the stuff fits into a compact box that's EZ to carry (on a dolly with my SKB Amplifier Case) The Mini Gig Rig sits on the dolly first, with the "Original" SKB Case on the top. The grooves on the bottom of the "Original" case notch perfectly into the ridges on the top of the Mini Gig Rig. SKB did this purposely! So the two SKB pieces make up one dolly load.

I guess the coffin style attracts more attention due to the 'visual presentation'. If onsite WOM was important to me, I'd still be using a coffin. My "offsite" WOM is great (past clients referring clients after the fact) so no need for "visuals".

I have both a coffin and smaller road case. The coffin is a must at weddings, but could be left at home for school dances. Oh yes! I agree the coffin is a monster to haul around.

The coffin that I use is an Odyssey slide-back; two turntables at mid-level, bottom storage and double CD drawer; top...mixer, light control unit and double CD player, ETA power light unit. I don't scratch, I play mint-condition vinyl 45's to compliment CD's. I have 4 sources ready to go at any given time. Since I have many duplicate songs (cd & vinyl), it makes it very easy to insert special requests throughout the night.

I didn't mention amplifier because I don't need one in my road case. All my speakers are RCF self-powered, subs included. Oh, Mackie 1530 is powered too!

However, I now find myself recording vinyl 45's to CD's in order to one day do away with the road "hog". Like you said, Fatcat, people like to see the dj "work."

How true it is. I didn't go 100% CD until 1995 because people liked to see the turntables spin. Now I charge extra for a real vinyl DJ package.

"The coffin is to heavy"
Screw a pair of 3" or 4" fixed casters to one end flush with the bottom, screw a handle to the other end.
Then roll it around like a dolly.
