Default Warning! Numark CD Mix 2

This is a warning for anyone who has, and uses the Numark CD Mix 1 or 2.
I own 6 of them!
We use the unit for Cocktail hours, ceremonies, and very small outdoor events.
They have done the job up until last weekend.
2 of my DJs were outside doing a wedding ceremony on a very humid, muggy day. Because the unit is made cheap,( What do you want to $ 499 ) it is not air tight. Not as tight as a Pioneer or a Denon!
Anyway, as the bride was ready to come down, the laser lens clouded over from the humidity and the CD player would not read the CD. It was not the CD as we had 2 copies of the ceremony music and used both decks! I guess the humidity did the players in.
Thank God the bride was cool with the problem.
Please watch these players in the heat of the summer on humid days!

WOW! Thanks for the warning Mike. I use these for the same purpose and my bar gigs now.

You East Coast DJs have to worry about so many things: the hurricanes, the Noreasters, the summer rain squalls that come outta nowhere, and THE HUMIDITY (the kind that makes you SWEAT LIKE A PIGGIE)

Here in Colorado there ain't no humidity!

They think 25% humidity is high here . . . but I'm from Michigan originally, so I know better!

However . . . we have the exact opposite problem here!

It is so dry that every time I touch something metal, I get a shock!

Hey Doc, does your hair stand on end? I have lived all over the USA and we are indeed dry enough here to zap a water melon, LOL.

Static cling is a part of daily life here in Colorado!

This morning, with all of the rain we've been getting the last couple of days, humidity (according to 9 News-Denver) was 96% . . .

yet I still got a shock when I got out of my truck this morning!

shrug

By the way . . . I was down in your nectar of the woods over the weekend!

We keep our camper up in Woodland Park and spent the weekend there working on it!

It almost sounds like the problem is the humidity, which could strike any piece of equipment, and not necessarily specific to t he Mix 2.

I no longer use my units because I have too much material on data discs and the Mix-2 won't read data.

Should Numark come out with a Mix-3 that does read data discs, I will buy them in a second.

However, speaking with the guys at Electronic Bargains, they tell me that Numark is disappointed in the sales performance of this model and will not be making an upgraded unit.

I use mine for ceremonies, kids parties and other events where I know I am not going to be needing access to my catalog on data discs.

In fact, I used it this past Monday night for a kids party and it still sounds great!

I am thinking about picking up the new Denon 4000 dual CD player which reads MP3 format. This would be a great ceremony deck, and the price is $ 599
I think????
You can't take a chance with your clients wedding day!
I think I am paranoid and fed up with Numark after this last situation.
Anyway, the Numark is still awesome for doing cocktail hour and small parties.

Hey Doc, must be NICE to have a camper up in the Woodland Park area!! Do you rent or own property where you keep it?

On my list of things for when I get back on top is a nice camper rig and some Mountain property!! Next time you are down this way let's hook up for a real live chat and some java or Jack or whatever you like.

I have had not had any better luck with Denon decks than any of the other major brands, including Numark, but maybe that is just my luck. Now that Denon is dropping their pricing down to real world (well almost anyway) they might be worthy of my next one...
