How many other DJ's are in your market?
How many other DJ's are in your market?
Any idea?
Ever really thought about it?
Last time I counted DJ's in the Denver yellow pages, I found well over 100 DJ's listed!
At that time it was estimated that there were over 1000 DJ services in the Denver metro area!
And I'm sure that number is much higher today!
That was two years ago . . .
I have recently decided to remove myself from marketing the big city area just because there is just way too much fierce competition to get a decent, livable wage!
How much competition (in number of DJ services) do you have in your market?
And please, if you are going to say that none of the local DJ's ARE your competition, please don't respond . . .
That is not the jist of this question . . .
Numbers are what I am after here . . .

Here in Portland, we have 46 DJs listed, many of which are multi-ops.
There is no firm estimate as to how many DJs are here in Maine or the Portland area in particular, but with a Metro population of 150,000, it is a crowded market, thus why we need to separate ourselves from the competition.

I would estimate that there are about 200 in the Sacramento Metro Area.....
but fortunately for me only a handful are using the Internet to market themselves.
Right now I'm in a fortunate situation since my pricing is mid-level at $600 to $700 while the bottom feeders are at $250 to $350 and the Ferrellites are charging $995 to $1500.
Being in a somewhat unique situation, I've carved out a marketing niche for myself that has not been duplicated by anyone (yet...)

John,
Do you really think there are 1000 DJ's in the Denver metro- Front range area? When I type in Disc Jockeys in www.qwestdex.com, for the Denver area, I come up with 158 listings. Many of those are duplicates.
Granted, many of us like myself, do not advertise in the yellow pages. I feel that since several DJ's have gone out of business over the last year, I can safely assume that only about 300-350 DJ's exist in the entire state.

Mike,
I do believe there are at least 1000, if not more!
The Denver metro area is huge . . .
Sure, many of these DJ's are not professional services, but they are out there doing gigs!
I'm sure, too, that many of them don't last very long . . . but as soon as one disappears . . . another emerges!
Look at how many stores around town sell DJ equipment . . . somebody is buying it!
Not to mention those that are buying off of the internet!
More later!
(By the way . . . still going to Longmont tomorrow night?)
