Default Best February in as long as I can remember....

....since I stopped advertising in YP seven or eight years ago!

Back when I was advertising YP, I was spending $500 per month advertising and making $2000 (in February)
meaning only $1500 in actual earnings

Now, my ENTIRE ADVERTISING COST FOR THE YEAR is around $500 (plus $220 for my dialup ISP and web hosting bundle).

Last year in February, I worked six nights at the club and one private party.

This year, I'm doing three private events (Feb 1, 8, and 15), five club nights, and am collecting five advance deposits for later in the year.

My wife is completely exstatic---she cannot believe how well I'm doing in what is NORMALLY a "slow" period.

Before I get too inflated an ego, I have to remind myself that I'm still have no Mobile gigs for March or April (yet)

Big props go out to WeDJ--the Feb 1 and the Feb 15 were both booked thru that service.

The February 8 was a repeat customer (from a Sept. 2002 wedding---also from WeDJ)

WeDJ ROCKS!!!

Congrats, Matt.

I agree. WeDJ is a great resource and it doesn't cost a dime. Over the past month or so we've received several "real" contacts from WeDJ -- "real" contacts being email inquiries and phone calls.

One bride booked us on the spot because, as she put it, "you were the first one to answer the phone".

Agee, YP (superpages.com) not worth the money. You get the first call, but if you're mid-to-high price, few call backs. Gone back to just phone number and website.

Not certain WeDJ has given me that many confirmed gigs. Lots of querrys, however. It's in the numbers.

Even bridal show has not resulted in confirmed booking, as yet. It's all about price! (:

Bookings are up at this point, way over last year. I attribute that to internet exposure, my website, and Maine Wedding Disc Jockey Network. Good job, Jim!! Those links seem to be paying dividends!

Question: Have you experienced an over abundance for requests for the same date by your brides? Had to turn away numerous brides for weddings in June '03. Booked two and had other two weekends blacked out for personal reasons. Just the luck of the draw, I suppose?

"Less Mic, more music for dancing!"
"Still spinning after all these years."

Yes Art I have...

June 7, 14, and 21st have had multiple inquiries as well as Sept 6th and 13th

Tough to turn them down, but thats what happens.

I have not had one call from the bridal show. I think I have done my last one

I hate bridal shows.

when you add up the total cost in time, building the booth, the upfront costs, etc--- Its a very expensive form of marketing.

I know Steve Fernino and his brother would disagree with me---but I'm just speaking from my own experience and the testimonials of other who have been "skunked" by Bridal Fairs

You know, something offensive like...say..."God Bless The USA" on the night of the terrorist attacks?

aw---c'mon John---would you please let go of this???

we've already established it was not on the "night of" but the "week of"

The only song I won't play for a mobile customer is "The Stripper" (the entire reason I became a DJ). If a person paying me several hundred dollars wants a song, I play the damn song!

when I'm working in a bar I'm working for the OWNER....HE HATES COUNTRY MUSIC...END OF STORY. Combine that with the amount I'm being paid ($35 an hour bringing only CDs).

Please note: I love the song "Courtesy Of The Red White And Blue" by Toby Keith---had that particular song been requested I would have likely played it and submit myself to the flogging of most benificent owner----LOL
