What can we do about the bad DJ?

OK, I've seen posts elsewhere talking about the DJ that was telling guests at a wedding to get their azz out on the dance floor. He was doing it on the mic.

I also saw a post about the DJ that set up his laptop and left it on autoplay all night while he hit the food line and sat around with his feet up.

Then I saw the post about the DJ that was playing on the 4th and kept changing genres at random.

So, what can we do about this?

Then there are the noshow DJs and the ones that charge pennies for weddings at high dollar venues.

I ask again, so, what can we do about this?

These folks are obviously detrimental to our industry. Their clients and the guests of their clients get a bad taste in their mouth and put the bad lable on us all.

Sure, you can approach them and try to talk to them. I have. But, most of the folks of this ilk blow you off or tell you to go mind your own business. Some want to punch you out. Talking to thes folks just doesn't work.

You could propbably invite them to a meeting of your local association. Again, they'll blow you off or tell you to mind your own business. I've tried this route as well. It doesn't work. Even if they say they'll come, they won't.

You could try warning your prospects. But then again you'd be bashing the competition and that may not look good in the prospect's eyes.

What are we going to do about this?

When I am in a meeting with a prospect I try not to "Bash" the other Dj's but I do talk alot about my credentials. I talk about NAME, and PDJA, I also talk about my experience and try to explain to them that without all of these things, You NEVER know what you are going to get. ........But with me, you know exactly what you are going to get.

What can we do about the bad DJ?

In a word, Nuttin'. The people you're talking about are convinced that their perfomance is at least adequate. Otherwise they would be seeking opportunities to improve themselves without our intervention. These DJs are not my competition so I'm not going to worry about them. They will drive themselves out of this business. While they are doing that, those of us who strive for high quality shows should continue to do so.
