Another victory for the English language...NOT!
But then again, what do nonchalant DJs care about effective communication??
(But I'm not bitter!)

Apparently Ryan is talking about his mortgage woes with the purchase, but he still hasn't officially announced it...
And...
Apparently I have ruffled some feathers stealing his thunder so to speak.
I will say sincerely I wish Ryan the best of luck.

I do find this development a bit troubling, given the fact that Mr. Burger won't invest in the proper hardware and software necessary to keep his Internet businesses up and running 24/7. What would happen to Mobile Beat? Would it become Mobile Beat On The Cheap?

While it is true that one of Ryan's products had a meltdown almost two years ago now, many measures have been put into place to make sure that this does not happen again. There are ways for each individual account holder to backup their data and there is even an off-line version of the system that can be synchronized with the on-line version. Other investments have been made to include a better backup system that has been tested and found 100% reliable.
While it might be fun to bash a company for a problem that occurred nearly 2 years ago, eventually we all should move on and let it go.

Tom...I believe Ryan has a longer history than just that one incident.
He was stubborn enough to wait to change his Forum software until 2003 when members were leaving in droves.
I'm certain there are others too.

I had major problems with my website and email, both hosted by ProDJ.com since 1999, and last August after another major SNAFU I changed to a reliable, more responsive hosting company.
Ryan's comment to me before I decided to switch was that if I wanted, he could put my website on a more reliable server. A more reliable server? What the hell had I been paying $360 a year for?
Now, what were you were saying, Tom?

We don't subscribe to MB so it makes no difference to us either way.
That said, I sense that MB may take a GWYW-ish slant in time to come.

Wolfie... I'd love to know where you get that "sense" from. You don't subscribe, you don't belong to associations... all you do is base your opinions on what you read online.
I think your reality is way off, but even if Mobile Beat took a "make more money" slant... why is everyone so hell bent on bashing that idea? We're business owners and the concept of earning more money shouldn't be rejected. The ones that do reject the idea of earning more money are pure hobbyists.

Chris...I have never in my 9+ years of Mobile Djing subscrbed to it either...and that's AFTER being offered a free subscription.
Simply put, the magazine is mostly ads (I have the internet to look up ads if I want) with very little meat.
I want not only good educational articles, but how about some news outside of the Mobile Beat realm. Even if it was smaller font without pictures, it would be interesting to see what is going on with other organizations.
Without major changes, MB will continue to be a large infomercial in print.

Jim:
So I take it even though you don't subscribe, you are qualified to say that it is just ads which means you have picked up a copy here and there. Is that fair to say?
I don't disagree that there are a lot of ads in the publication. I wish there was more substance, too. In fact, I wish the seminars in Vegas were better.
But, Mobile Beat is the ONLY publication exclusively for DJs. True, there are other mobile DJ conventions, but the Vegas show is the largest (well, DJ Times has a large draw, too).
My point? Instead of just b**ching from your computer chair in an online forum, how about providing some input to Mobile Beat, its show producers, etc.? Mobile Beat is always looking for writers. Jim, I've seen your writing online... you seem to be well educated and could write a nice piece on something.
Be part of the solution, not the problem gentlemen.
