A prospect that doesn't show to an interview and doesn't even have the common courtesy to call.

Greets, Tom.
Yup, that can be irritating to say the least. But you know what? If I had my druthers I'd rather have 'em no-show than go through and waste an hour or better of my time because they don't book us.
Or... I drive out to the client's home to find out they've forgotten all about the scheduled meet -- and a cousin or close friend is gonna DJ their wedding anyhow...

Client calls...sets an appointment...no shows.
Calls back next day...had a "family emergency" sets new date/time....no shows.
Calls back again...another "family emergency" but now wants to meet at a restaurant "near our home" and discuss things over coffee. You guessed it. No show again.
THEY CALL BACK AGAIN. I tell them I am not available anymore (I actually was still available) and to look elsewhere. They INSIST on meeting anyway. I tell them no.
That was the last time I was patient with a potential client.
I now insist on a home phone number, and cell number to call to reconfirm ALL appointments. Saves sitting waiting for nothing.

I've had it happen twice in nine years...
And I will cofness, I did it once...in 2004
I mistakenly did not place an appointment in my calendar and totally spaced on it. I made it up to them by taking them out to dinner and playing an extra hour at no charge,
The client later thought I shoudl have done more, but alas...I gave them what I thought it would be worth.

What about the same situation, only reversed?
Last summer I had a phone conversation with a bride and set up a tentative appointment to meet her and her fiancé. A little while later (in the same conversation) she asks me for a ballpark figure for a price. I gave her the price range, and she said that she would have to talk to her dad first to make sure it fits the budget, and that she'll get back to me.
Fast forward to the tentative appointment day. I was still expecting a confirmation phone call, and, of course, since I didn't get one, I'm doing other things. About a half-hour after the alleged appointment time, I get a call.
"I'm at our meeting place. Where are you?"
"You said that you would talk to your dad and get back to me."
"Oh. I thought we had an appointment...Well, I'll get back to you."
I haven't heard back from her. Maybe I should have dropped everything and gone to the meeting, but that would have taken up to an hour to shift gears. What do they say about assuming?

I've had a few no shows over the years . . .
A couple of them I had a strange feeling (red flag) and actually wished for them not to show! :shrug
Anyway, family emergency or no . . . if they have an appointment, they SHOULD call and reschedule!
I would . . . unless I was unconsious or something worse! :oooops

Possibly, much of it is due to prospects calling several DJ companies and setting up meeting dates. It's called window shopping.
For instance, let's say they've met with a couple of companies and decided on the cheapest one. Their scheduled meet with the others isn't 'til next week but that doesn't matter anymore. They've got their DJ and have accomplished their mission. They simply move on to the next wedding planning crisis and completely forget about the DJ companies they've inconvenienced.
Why don't they call to tell you that? Well, that's asking people to be organized and have manners and courtesy. Don't expect that to happen anytime soon.
We went though much the same last NYE. I quoted a decent "introductory" rate as this was a new venue. The prospect had us drive out to two meets but never called to get the contract signed. We learned later they'd booked a cheaper service. She didn't call, say go-to-hell, nothing. I had to call her to get the word. According to her, another service had "underbid us by $15.00" -- her words.
A few weeks later she called to say her wedding was the following Saturday and her DJ had bailed on her. Believe me, I was very tempted to read her the old "you never get more than you pay for" line. I don't think she even knew who I was nor remembered the NYE slight. She was just working her way through the YP. I did think to myself, it serves you right.
But I kept my yapper shut. She asked for a price. I quoted an astronomical rate (for this area), she said "I'll get back to you" and I never heard from her again. That suited me fine. I didn't trust her after the crap she pulled the last time.
Honestly, some people are so disorganized and so ditzy....
