I just relocated to North Carolina. This area has a regional style of music (NC, SC, VA, Ga, MD) called "Shag and Beach Music". In fact, there are DJ's down here that play only "Shag and Beach Music".

So, I must now search my music library for Artists and Songs that may apply to this style of dance, but before I can do that I could use a little collective DJ help.

Perhaps those of you who have this kind of music knowledge would be willing to post your Top 10 tried and true Shag and Beach songs. There are actually clubs for this sort of genre.

Look forward to replies. :helpme

Art!

Great to hear from ya...

I saw this tidbit on one website:

Shag Music
The Carolina shag may be danced to classic “beach music” tunes such as “Carolina Girls,” “Under the Boardwalk,” and “I Love Beach Music,” or the Carolina shag may be danced to Motown and blues. Most shag music is interchangeable with west coast swing music. The music is normally blues style, written in 4/4 time.

Thanks, Jim.

Great to be back on line.

Thanks for the link. BTW, could you change the spelling on the heading subject line? "Reginal" music should be spelled "Regional". My goof.

BTW like the new format for MDJN site! Always improving! Way to go.

Art,

My all time favorite Beach tune is "Nine Times A Man" by Wilson Pickett.

Greetings, Art.

Sometime back we bought a 4-disc box set of East Coast Beach music at Amazon.com. It goes over well here in Delaware, too. I believe the set is on the Ripete label. It might be out of print now -- these things don't last long -- but you may find some excellent collections at Amazon by doing a search for beach music.

I hope it helps.

:clap Thanks to all for giving me a starting point. I'll let you know how the Shag expedition turns out.
