Jim : As a sole proprietor, filing forms may shift a bit while your tax liabilties will remain almost equal. Add an employee or start sub-contracting and the whole game changes.

Your CPA will be your best source of information on the subject. For Gods sake, don't listen to DJs, especially me.

As I understand, the DBA and TA are much the same. Which term is used may depend upon the state one resides in.

Cap is right on the money. Ask your accountant or tax preparer for advice on the LLC designation.
