Urgent Alert For Our Members
September 21, 2005
Dear WeDJ.Com Member,
Many of the servers we lease are located in Dallas and Houston, TX -- which you may already know is about to get hit by hurricane Rita sometime on Friday morning.
Both of the ISPs we use have taken every precaution possible and even have multiple backup generators and over 10,000 gallons of fuel on hand. The buildings that contain our servers were built to handle Category 4 hurricanes, which is what Rita is expected to be when she hits Houston. The actual internet lines and services are underground and have their own backup generators. Little or no outages are expected.
However....
Gigbuilder has a backup/mirror server in Peoria, Illinois which can be accessed at
http://www2.gigbuilder.com -- this has always been the case as your data is extremely important to us. Should you be unable to access your Gigbuilder at its normal location (
www.gigbuilder.com) and our name servers are down, the actual IP address of the mirror server is
http://216.43.198.145 which you can copy and paste into your browser, login to gigbuilder as usual, and continue working.
Gigbuilder, the world's most popular online event management software for mobile professionals, always keeps a mirror of your data in case of server failure. You may access
http://www2.gigbuilder.com at any time, not just during outages.
Tomorrow night (Thursday evening) we will take down the WeDJ.com system for a complete backup which will be copied to our WeDJ.com backup server in Peoria, Illinois. Should the hurricane cause disruptions from our ISP, there may be a short period of time before our search engine comes back online from the Peoria backup.
Anybody web hosting with WeDJ.com on our $5/month self-service plan should make backups to their own computer. This can be accomplished by logging into your control panel at
http://accounts.wedj.com and then accessing your web hosting control panel and creating a backup.
We currently have daily backups of ALL our hosting customers and will attempt to get the 100GB+ data moved to our Peoria backup servers as well.
From what we have been told, there should be little or no disruption of service from our primary providers in Dallas and Houston. While this may be true, we are still taking our own backup and recovery steps.
Many people will be affected by this hurricane and our prayers go out to all of them.
Regards,
Scott Rosenberg
