One of the four most intense storms (potentially) to make landfall in the US

States of Emergency, 100,000 people stuck in New Orleans.

It looks very grim

George Clooney and Marky Mark are out in the Gulf right now surveying the area.

Seriously, my thoughts go out to the millions who will be directly affected by Katrina. I wish them the best while at the same time I'm giving thanks my area was spared.

This storm will affect the entire nation. Every oil well in the Gulf has shut down for the storm as well as the port of New Orleans, which handles approx 1/3 of our domestic oil. If they are shut down for any length of time due to the hurricane, expect fuel prices nationwide to go up even more.
