Among many dicussions I have come to a conclusion that the word A** is not a swear. As you can see from the below, Dictionary.com states it as being a part of the body and sexual intercouse. In trying to find out whether or not it is a swear, I have also faced opposition. What is your opinion.

Dictionary.com also states that it's "vulgar" slang. Anything listed as "vulgar" is a swear/curse word.

Just an old dog's humble opinion:

The dictionary is a reference book, not an etiquette guide. Please remember that.

Is "bottom" a swear word? If used in context as a swear word, yes.

There are words and phrases that are acceptable in "locker room" situations. The same words and phrases may not be acceptable in civilized company. Our mothers raised us better. If one has doubts, the reference to "bottom" should be substituted by "bee-hind", "butt" etc.

Yes, I served a hitch in the US Navy. Ol' Wolfster can cuss with the best of 'em, LOL. The ticket is to know when to use 'em and when not to use 'em. There are substitutes we all know well -- "arse", "frigging", "danged" etc. Please keep 'em in mind when in mixed company.

My best advice would be to keep your conversation civil... think of it as if you were talking to your mother. It works, trust me

I hope it helps.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE</div><div class='quotemain'> I was also told it was another word for Donkey
If used to describe a donkey, it is not a curse. That's why dictionary.com doesn't preface that definition with "vulgar". Only when it's use to describe the buttocks or sexual intercourse is it listed in the dictionary as vulgar (ie, swear word).

Of course, in 20 years, after all the garbage today's youth have been subjected to in music and TV, they may remove all references to vulgarity in the dictionary. Nothing will be considered vulgar. But as long as more than half the earth's population was born before 1990, I believe there will be a distinction between vulgar and clean.

I hope I'm wrong about today's youth, but I do wish there were more Will Smiths in the industry than Eminems and guys named Dogg. :cuss

It's all in how its used. Most parents today automatically think that when it is used in a song that it is automatically thought to be vulgar and that their children should not listen to it and its the worst thing in the world. Fact is, no one can judge a book by its cover, just like no one should be judging a song by a few lines of that song. Who knows, that person could be using in a completly differnt manner than the parent may realize becuase that parent has failed to investigate and listen to really know how it is being used. 6 is to one as a half dozen is to another.

That's right, Like the song "Back That bottom Up".

It is really about an enviromentally friendly logger, telling his mules to back up to a log.

:wtf? are you trying to say?

From what I can tell, that is the same line that our kids tried to use when they were teenagers to try to justify music that we didn't approve of!

I don't understand what you are tyring to question? You can't judge a book by it's cover, you can't judge a song by it's lyrics. The concept is really simple. It's just like saying "that person must be mean and unclean because he/she looks like a bum and looks wierd."
