ProDJpc http://www.prodjpc.com/

ProDJ has now entered into designing computer systems for djs to dj with. I know I will take a smacking for this next comment, but I as one would lack confidence in their computer expertise, when they can't keep their own servers a float with out losing major information for both clients and visitors. And on more than one occassion.

I think I would buy one off of Dr Drax or Professor Jam based on information I have read online.

Your thoughts...

Glenn : Interesting observation about the ProDJ servers, which was exemplified last week with load and access time issues.

Perhaps a broader look into your question might be valuable.

Why does one feel compelled to buy an all-in-one digi-dj computer system in the first place? What's the advantage or disadvantage of buying your computer of choice and making it work the way the user wants, not the way the designer/manufacturer wants you to?

Does it have to do with lack of computer technical knowledge? Ease? Support? Cost?

What about software and hardware updates and upgrades? End of life resale value? Backup (Gotta buy 2?)?

Guess there is a fear of being blocked somewhere, views but no responses....

I wouldn't as I would build my own.

Every man and his dog claims to be able to build the most stable PC for using as a DJ platform, however very few of them in the UK especially can manage to keep them running for more than a few gigs before something goes wrong.

Why? I don't know.

I have built systems that have been around the world, my own included. They work flawlessly for year after year, being handled by baggage handlers and god knows who else....

When they get to the other end they work 100%.

I too would be wary byuing such a system from those who can not keep their own systems in order. It may reflect on how they work it may not. But why take that chance.

Glenn...
I thought the same thing when I read this...

They lose data

They have a very slow website (even after the switchover - at least it isn't crawling)

I would put about as much faith in them as I would for my chances of surviving a ride in a barrel over Niagara Falls (Horseshoe)

I can comment on this as I have no plans to sell computers to fellow DJs..

I'm sure individuals would purchase computers from Drax and I'm sure Ryan will find an Opportunistic method of capitalizing on Drax's credentials. With the Computer DJ Summit this October will we see a ProDJPC tour in a feeble attempt to avoid participation in an established program? Time will tell and if a track record has relevance, I would bet on it.

I personally would research very hard the quality and track record of products being sold and avoid "Indorsed By" systems for sell - I prefer to support the pioneers who have invested thousands of hours into research such as http://www.djrak.com or if you are unable to build your own, purchase locally so you can drive a very short distance for support if ever needed.

I would rather master a couple platforms than do several halfa$$ed like so many others...So no new ventures from me into computer building...

I was wondering why Ryan prefers to censor the Computer DJ Summit from his boards and as always its at the hands of being self-serving...

To answer your question Glenn…

No… I would not purchase a computer from Professor JAM ;o)
Yes… I would from Drax…. But ONLY! And I mean ONLY if Drax was personally building it and offering the support to back-it-up!

Cap... For some lack of ability, others for sake of saving time.
