Default Selling The Negative

I have personally visited many DJ's web sites and one prominent factor I noticed on two different extremes is the highlighting of the positivity and negativity in their presentation.

Some DJ's only highlight positives, primarily in what they have to offer the client and portrayal of personalized service; keeping their tone on the up and up.

Some DJ's accentuate the negative every chance they get, no matter what topic they're covering on their site. This comes in the form of how-to-hire-a-DJ FAQ's, storylines of hack DJ's, and other things.

Most of the perceived "negativity" is part of the education process of helping clients make an informed decision on their DJ.

But, how much is too much? What tone do you like to set and why? Tell us about which extreme (positive, negative, or maybe a balance of both) you use in selling yourself and/or educating the client. How do your clients react?

John, on my website I only mention the positives I can bring to their event.

Negative advertising may work in politics, but in the gentle world of attracting bridal customers, a softer approach is desired.

I try to give people a reason to hire me, not reasons to not hire the other guy.

I agree with my Southern New England bretheren about trying to keep it positive, but I think you need to at least enlighten your bride on what could happen.

I can't rose-color everything for the bride. Weddings do NOT go perfectly no matter how good we are.
