Powered speakers have improved so much that I wanted to poll the online members. How many of you use powered speakers and how many use passive.
What speakers do you use? If passive, What amp do you use?

I have Yorkville powered subs and satalites and a pair of Behringer powered B300's.

People complain of the wiring associated with signal and power feeds. I added surface outlets to the subs to power the sats with so all I really have is a signal and power feed to the sub and the satalite jumps off that.

One point for consideration is the proximity of vibration to the boards.
As I noted in the equipment section, I had a broken solder joint on a capacator that probably was the result of bass vibration as the board is mounted directly behind the speaker in the box.

Other than that, couldn't be happier with powered speakers.

Well, I just recently switched from passive to active speakers.

I was using Mackie C300i's with a Mackie 1400i amp.

Now I have EV SxA 250's. Couldn't be happier with the choice of the EV's.

I was a huge Mackie fan till I started reading more problems that people were having with the SRM 450's. Now I'm going with EV all the way. :tup

I have had no problems with my powered JBL EON G2's. I do wish JBL offered a more powerful alternative in a matching sub (other than the G2 subs that are pretty weak), but I rarely have a need for subs anyway, so I never bought theirs.

By the way, Rick, your post went WAY over my head!

:heart I love my powered speakers! :tup

Have been using powered speakers since 1999 and find they are really convenient. I have a pair of RCF (2-way, (12") 230 Watt) mains and a set of matched RCF subwoofers (15" 400 Watts ea). The clarity is unbelievable and the subs provide the additional presence. These were purchased before Mackie bought out the RCF technology and began putting it with their Mackie line 450's, 1530's, etc. I also have a pair of powered (3-way, 500 Watts) Mackie 1530's.

The RCF's are used for Weddings and small party events. When I do a school dance, etc. I bring the Mackie's along for more presence. They work great together.

The convenience of the RCF system is that the 2-way's are connected to the subs for electrical power and line input. So you only need one power cord each side of your setup. Another feature of the RCF Active speakers is that because they have their own volume control, they are perfect for remote activities, i.e. wedding ceremony! PA functions. :krazy

The only misgiving I have is that RCF never made an 18" subwoofer for sale in the USA. If they had, it would have been awsome. I have seen the powered Mackie 18" subwoofers, but not heard them. Anybody care to comment on the Mackie 18" subwoofer?

My next big purchase will be dbx Driverack. Anyone have one of these? Are they worth the money?

Oops! :wow Got off track! Sorry.

Pair of Monstor Peavey's (60kg each) 700W rms per cab, powered by either my Peavey DPC-1000 or my two Mono Power amps 1050W rms each.

The Amps weigh a lot no idea how heavy exactly but I can barely lift them both together.

Also have some smaller speakers fitted with 15" & 10" drivers and dual horns, don't use them anymore, though might take them to bigger gigs just for the extra coverage.

I can focus on quality and not have issues with weight - I have a lift in my van so no broken backs here
