I like Network Solutions, and register my domains through them. I feel more comfortable with the BIG company than some of the two-bit companies that offer much lower registration prices (in fact, I've had some serious problems with them in the past, which is why I switched back).

However, needless to say, NS has only served to re-emphasize its higher pricing by its latest offer. Yes, you too can register your domain name for 100 years at just $9.99 per year! That's still higher than some of their competitor's one-year prices, and if I'm not dead in 100 years, I'd probably rather be. Besides, who knows if domain names (never mind NS) will even be around in 100 years?

Their 9-year price is $14.99 per year. Somehow, I'd think I'd rather spend $134.91 for 9 years than $999 for 100 years. What do you think??

Hey, at least I wouldn't have to worry about inflation over the next 100 years!

Jim,

Go Daddy may finally have overcome NS as the largest registrar. And as you noted, they're about half the price. Have you had any negative issues with them? If I don't hear many negatives between now and my next renewal date, I may transfer over. NS is great, as I said, but overpriced.

Donny

www.godaddy.com is the way to go.... I have several sights with them and I was with NS since 1995 I think and I was paying too much for too long!

I act as a registrar for Enom. But. All my own personal domains are registered through GoDaddy. (I have 14 domains registered with them....2 with Ev1 Servers and 3 with a Canadian registrar)

Why don't I use Enom even though I get a reduced rate? Mostly because I have been with GoDaddy now for 3 or 4 years and had nothing but great service from them as far as being a registrar is concerned. (as far as their hosting is concerned I have a lot of clients who have switched from GoDaddy to my service...I love GoDaddy for that)

I don't do my Canadian domain registrations with GoDaddy as they are 3 times the price I pay to a Canadian registrar.

Couple of interesting observations. Domains registered with GoDaddy will take until at least noon the next day to propagate but domains I register with my Canadian registrar will propagate in 2 to 3 hours!!!! I don't know why there is such a difference, but there is.

I've never had a problem with Go Daddy...very courteous staff when I have had questions (although hold times are a bit long)

Add me to the list of people giving GoDaddy the thumbs up. When we first started out we also started with network solutions and register.com because of the...<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE</div><div class='quotemain'>I feel more comfortable with the BIG company [/b][/quote] ...effect.
When it comes down to it there is basically only one organization behind the scenes of top-level domain registrations. The only real difference between Go Daddy and the "big companies" is the profit margin they take from your wallet.
We now have over 2 dozen domains registered and only a handful are not with Go Daddy. They will be transferred to Go Daddy as there renewal times near.

The longer you register a domain for the lower the price is with GoDaddy. Register for 10 years and it is only $6.95 a year.
