Thumbs up

(This is not a thread for the 'Website' board . . . but a general question for the 'Main' board!)

I can't tell you how many DJ websites that I have visited over the years, and I am alway dumbfounded at one thing!

I've seen literally HUNDREDS of DJ website that don't have at least the city and state, or country, for that matter, listed anywhere!

Or . . . you really have to dig really deep into the site just to find it!

WHY IS THIS?

In my humble opinion . . . this should be very prominanent on the very first page that any onlooker gets to!

I have 'Boulder, Colorado' plastered on every single page of my website . . .

I am very interested in having viewers know where I am located . . .

I've heard the old 'hiding from my ex' routine . . . total BS!

If that is the case, then 'WHY' would you even have a website?

Why are so many DJ's afraid to post there market location on their websites?

Doc,
I do not put my location on my site because I do not want my market limited by my hometown. If it were, I would not be able to play at gigs in four different states, and about a 250 mile radius.

That is my legitimate reason.

By having your base location is not limiting your market!

On the other hand . . . you can also put your service area on your website!

I have a listing on two different pages of my site that covers where I will go!

My website says Boulder . . . which is adjacent to the Denver metro area . . . and I get lots of calls from there!

I also occasionally get calls from Wyoming (apparently not too many DJ's up there) . . . I don't want to go there!

I personally am not interested in traveling hundreds of miles to do gigs!

And Wyoming is only around 70 miles away!

The point I'm trying to make is that, while I like out-of-towners who are having an event HERE to contact me . . .

Why on earth would I want someone who is having an event in Maine . . . or Florida, contact me here in Colorado to ask prices about weddings, for example!

Do you guys have any location listed?

And . . . have you ever thought about the fact that, by not having some type of location listed, that you may, in fact, be loosing out on many gigs?

I don;t believe I am losing gigs Doc. You need to think like the client. Many believe that they should hire someone in the "local area" of their wedding.

Well, personally, the local area would not net me very much money. Travelling 60-100 miles for a wedding is not a big deal. It adds a couple of hours to the package as a whole, but I define a total package as 20-30 hours from contract signing time to finish of the wedding.

Sometimes Doc to make money, good money, you have to be willing to travel. If the price is right, I will travel anywhere. I mean anywhere.

I love what I do and wouldn't trade it for anything in the world.

Thanks, MDoc,

I've just added "Serving NYC Metro Area" to the top left of my home page.

Good idea.

We are located in Greenwich, CT and I can walk into NY state from my house. We don't show any location either as someone having a wedding in NY will not contact a DJ in CT. That's why we have an 800 number.

As a matter of fact, most of our work is in NJ and NY and not in CT.

I too keep the location somewhat vague, although the title tags clearly show I'm based in "Sacramento and Northern CA"
