I belong to my Chamber for many years and am very active. We have mixers at least 2 to 3 times a month where members get together at various hosts and have free food, and usually wine and beer, etc. Back in the day (80's) I used to wear a tux because I stood out and people would always come over to me to either read my name tag or to strike up a conversation. Most figured I was in the tux business, and I thru them a curve ball by mentioning I was a DJ. Does anybody do anything different for dress attire or should I go back to the tux idea or?

I am involved with two Chambers of Commerce.

At mixers I usually wear a suit and try to wear something unique to accent it, such as a programmable LED Name Badge (like the ones worn at the DJ conferences and such).

The LED Name Tag is programmed with my name and my company name, and it is an eye catcher.

For the $60 investment, it helps break the ice. The tux idea sounds good too. Give it a try. I would wear it once, then try something else to compare results against.

How about a T-SHIRT with a picture of a tuxedo on the front?

I don't think I have ever posted here on this board before. I had been signed up for it for a long time though.
I got a letter from my Chamber of Commerce the other day. I was surprised to recieve it though. I dropped out of my chamber two years ago. The letter was saying that they regretted to inform me that they had to remove me from membership for non-payment of dues. Two years ago, I had paid for a one year membrship and when it failed to deliver what it had promised, I could no longer justify the expense. I recieved no business referrals, no benefits, not even an inquiry from a Chamber member and I offered Chamber members a 10% discount on services. I told the president of the Chamber that I had called and asked to be removed over two years ago and yet they still acted like I was a member and expected me to pay for services that I had nothing to do with. I had recieved a letter prior to this one saying that they just had a rate hike and it was now $400 a year. The mixers and activities, that's a lot of money to pay for "free food" I had dropped out of all of the associations, the Chamber of Commerce and just about everything as it was more important for me to spend my money on saving my house from foreclosure. I had to focus my time and energies into that which was more important. I wasn't getting the gigs to support it. Everybody said Join this or that association, join the Chamber go to this Bridal fair See you in Vegas. I can only do but so much and I had to put the main things first.
So that is what I have done. :yangel
