Read carefully. Although you do not need to register with the Copyright office, it is not a bad idea.

The real world difference per-my understanding is...

If it's not a registered copyright you can sue and will recover attorneys fees and court cost.

It's it's registered you can also recover damages...

I just completed a copyright registration for my DJ company name and logo.

I was prompted to do so when I saw some clown in Canada had actually STOLEN my logo off my web site (along with several others, including Breakthru Marketing and DiscJockeys.com). I have the original high-res CorelDraw file, so I hope we'll be able to force him to remove them.

You can see what I'm talking about by clicking on the following links:

WOW!

Talk about blatant.

Contact Homestead and inform them of the copyright infringement. If fact give me the information and I will do it.

I have fun making these people's lives a nightmare.

He is a member of the Canadian Online Disc Jockey Association, you can email their President Dennis Hampson @ President@codja.com

Dennis works out of a legal office, so he should be able to help you.

Thanks Glenn,

I just emailed him a link to this thread (I think).

Jim,

What information would you need? Email me -- I'd love to get the ball rolling. I've had some contact with Andy from DiscJockeys.com and Ryan Burger already. But I think I'm more of the aggressor here. I'd love some help.

DJ Donnie . . .

The fact that you are located in the USA . . .

And the fact that the stealing DJ is in Canada means that you may have a hard time enforcing your copyright!

Last I heard . . . copyrights are not international . . . unless you file them in every country of the world!

MDoc,

I realize that. However, there must be some sort of pressure that can be placed on a clown like that who just lifts someone else's logo. Letters to his local newspaper? I dunno.
