Gang -
All the time we (the DJ poplace) are seeing ads and reading testimony that DJ Web Tools (Generic term) are the answers to our prayers.

My questions(and please do not pit one against the other) is do they help close the deal? Are they really an asset to your service. If so, how do you mention it?

Also, have your potential clients abused it? Use the forms and etc w/ another DJ svc?

I have a DJ Web Tool and only use the date checker so far.
I still have standard online forms for the other info.

Thanks for your valuable insight :tup

Hi ED,

Hopefully Phil will chime in on this one as he uses one of the services. I would think any tool that creates an information pipe-line between you and your client is an asset.

Ding! Dong! Ding! Dong!

hehe just me Chiming in!

Ed,

I use mine to the max! and people are always thrilled about the idea of using it.

I use my online tools for receiving quotes, checking availability, dealing with music request lists, wedding planners, event timelines, referrals & survey forms.

I always mention it very prominantly in my emails and sales banter to the clients.

I enjoy making note of the "Do Not Play" lists they can produce, especially for weddings as everyone has the old haunting tunes they don't want at weddings.

Also I took a booking from one upmarket client based purely on the fact that when they searched my online music database I was the only DJ they had looked at who had their Favourite song!!!

Without that feature I would not have got that gig.

I don't give public access to my tools, otherwise I cuold image then being abused etc.. I only have the availability tool for public access.

this leads them to the quote generator if I am open for their chosen date. This is then emailed to me by the system. I then reply with a very courteous email, explaining the benefits of my online planning tools,, as well as other features I provide. At this stage most say YES.

So I then mail them out two contracts and at the same time create their client login access for the webtools.

Post function, I then remove the planners and music access leaving them free access to the survey form and referral forms.

If you visit my site and make a spoof booking request I will respond as though you were a Yellow Furry Bride about to wed her brown roosted cockrel. LOL

Then you can sample the email I send out and see how I word the tools section.

Hope this helps ya good buddy!

Ditto what Headline just said.

I don't promote the online features as heavily as I should.

My buddy El Condor Grande is a big fan of the Gigbuilder system at WeDJ. he uses it much more effectively than I have, with stellar results!

I use WeDJie Gigbuilder because its part of the WeDJie package.

Both DJ Intel and Gigbuilder are great tools for the online DJ!

I don't use one of the commercial web tools packages -- I created my own.

My site allows users to check date availability. If I'm available, they can continue to a price quote (which emails their info to me for follow-up), and the option to pay the retainer fee online. I've actually had clients who liked my web site so much that they've booked events without so much as an email or phone call to me first!

Part of the price quote is a travel distance calculator that determines how much of a travel fee I would need to add, if any, based on zip code. (I know there are some who consider travel fees unprofessional, but I can argue my viewpoint in a separate thread if you're interested.)

I also have a searchable song database, and have also had a number of clients who book me because they were able to see that I had the songs they wanted. (I always tell clients that I will purchase any songs I need prior to the event, but I guess they like to see that I already have it.)

As for a wedding planner and song list, they can download the pdf, complete, and mail/email/fax them back to me. I haven't yet created an online version (and I'm not sure I really need to).

By creating my own "web tools," at least I save on the costs of a commercial package. And I don't have to worry about flexibility if there's something that needs tweaking.

But having them on my web site is a great boon to business.

Donny

Donny its great you're so talented with computer programming, but for the rest of us non-geeks, its more cost effective to let one of the "Scotts" (Kartsoulis or Rosenberg) program our interactive web tools for us!
