With the recent addition of Global Mobile, there are now at least six associations vying for members.

NAME - National Association of Mobile Entertainers
ADJA - American Disc Jockey Association
USODJA - United States Online Disc Jockey Association
Independent Disc Jockey Alliance of America - IDJAA
GMEA - Global Mobile Entertainers Alliance

There is also another called R&B DeeJays

Some in our industry suggest we would be better served by one strong asoociation while others tend to believe that having more than one association leads to better benefits for the DJ community.

Sound off!

What do you believe?

Plus in Canada there is also;

CDJA - Canadian Disc Jockey Association
CODJA - Canadian Online Disc Jockey Association
CAMEO - Canadian Association of Mobile Entertainers and Operators

Plus there is a bevy of local associations as well.

And we only have maybe 20% the total numbers of DJ's the USA has

Cheers, Jim.

Personally I feel that industry associations are a good thing. Any organization that promotes professionalism is good.

Yes, there are several to choose from. Many members are members of more than one association.

Drumming up participation in association activities is no easy task, take it from me. The more mobiles we can get to join and support local and national associations the better. In time to come the various associations' local chapters may be able to meet and overlap.

But which system works best?

Multiple National Associations or one Unified Super Association? :shrug

Jim I know of the path that you walked, I have been monitoring the responses there, and I have kept quiet.

Let me answer your question with ...

Would things be better if there was:

One National TV broadcaster (ABC NBC CBS FOX)
One National Paper
One National Radio Station
One National Bank
One Grocery Store

What would you have - One person controlling the lives and futures of others.

I have for years backed a number of associations, and beleive all can flurish, but what would make this industry go further, is to get a rep from each to form a Presidents Council to work on the "big" national issues.

I will go back to dreaming now..... :fool

Glenn,
Read my responses at DJA to "Another Association" thread. You will understand why this question was asked.

There's a vision out there that disturbs me. You and I have a lot more in common than I realized

Thanks Glenn.

I don't mind letting it be known that I think competition makes for a better industry.

Jam makes a good point. I would think that maybe ASCAP and BMI would qualify for musician associations???

How many DJ associations should there be?

Based on my experiences with 3 associations to which I have belonged (ranging from 1 to 3 years each), I would have to answer...

ZERO

But that's just my humble opinion.
