Only through spirited debate...and discussion will the future of DJ Associations be properly addressed. Maybe a solution to certain Association problems can be found in this manner. As long as we all remember to treat each other with respect.
I admit that by posting as I did, I knew I would press a "hot button" but I was hoping that some interesting discussion and debates would happen as well. And it did. I hope it continues.
We ALL need associations to work together somehow. A Presidents Council is simply a first step. We DO need NAME, ADJA, et all but to get them working together, that would be such as rush.
Drax. I STILL consider you a friend...even though we have not chatted in a coons age. I still respect you as a Professional Entertainer and as a person who believes in his "art" and is passionate about it. Drax is a leader in certain areas as well. Something else to respect. So although I purposely choose to hit a hot button or 2 on our friend DJ Dr. Drax, the debate has been as was hoped by not just myself, but others I spoke to, lively.
I am now even more passionate about the future of DJ entertainment than I was 2 years ago. Back then I was ready to quit totally. Thusly I admit I had a bit of an attitude regarding certain things related to the DJ business. That has changed. I have a much more positive outlook at this time than I did then.
I'd like to see where DJ associations in not only the USA talked with each other and began to work together, but, communicate with other associations in other countries. Why? We all have similar concerns. We all have similar needs. And only by working together can standards and conditions for ALL DJ's be improved.
I admit I care about DJ's everywhere. I look globally as well as locally. What affects a DJ in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada also affects a DJ in Maine or California or even Sydney, Australia.
Insurance. Music rights. Standards and ethics. All these are the same concerns everywhere PME's are. PME? I use the term Professional Mobile Entertainers as this does cover both DJ's and Karaoke entertainers. The term also covers other entertainers like Hypnotists as well.
Let's get working together...then we will ALL see the benefits of higher income as well as a better public image of being Professionals.
Sorry Drax if I upset you. I hope I didn't. But man....the discussion is good
