Talking

Last night, I had the pleasure to play at a 10th year Class Reunion. While there was very little dancing, everyone enjoyed the music. There were 2 girls and 2 guys who danced on the dance floor, but most everyone was shaking their thang either at their table or with the group they happened to be chatting with.

It took me back to the days when I used to play in a local club and would spin some of the hits of the day, which are now referred to as "old school."

I was having a grand old time with some of these "plucked from obscurity" tracks. Check out some of these blasts from the past I played last night:

Cantaloop by Us 3
Don’t Walk Away by Jade
Groove Thang by Zhane’
If I Had No Loot by Tony Toni Tone
Live & Learn by Joe Public
Oh Carolina by Shaggy
I Like To Move It by Reel 2 Reel
Informer by Snow
My Lovin’ (Never Gonna Get It) by En Vogue
Show Me Love by Robin S
Ditty by Paperboy
Here Comes The Hotstepper by Ini Kamoze
Lucas With The Lid Off by Lucas
Ain't Too Proud To Beg by TLC
Dazzey Duks by Duice
Do You Want Me by Salt & Pepa
I Got A Man by Positive K
Insane In The Brain by Cypress Hill
Jump by Kriss Kross
Rump Shaker by Wrecks ‘N Effect
Shoop by Salt & Pepa
Tap The Bottle by Y.B.T.
What’s My Name by Snoop Dogg
Whatta Man by Salt & Pepa
If by Janet Jackson

This is in addition to stuff that has proved to have some longer legs from that era such as Baby Got Back, Jump Around, and Whoomp There It Is.

Good gig, there was some nice eye candy, the food was tasty, and the load in and out was right up a ramp leading to the dance floor.

I have a 35th tonight, with a whole bunch of songs from the late 60's on tap.

Far out, man.

It was certainly cool to be you last night.

That era was my favorite era of dance music.

We had great stuff from la Bouche, Corona, loads of one hit wonders like Captain Hollywood Project, Stayin' Alive remix by N-Trance and much more.

That was fun stuff...don't forget Montell Jordan and This Is How We Do It too!

I guess I'm getting too old if you're calling that "old school"

Roller derby disco of the mid-70s is my idea of old school. But then I'm old. I don't even spell school with a K.

I guess you know your getting old when at those reuions 10th or 15th they ask you to play some oldies and they mean Disco. Since I graduated in 1978 that makes me feel old. I do alot of class reuions especially for my school. It's fun to play alot of one hit wonders from the era of the class. And I bet you all get one or two of the ladies from the 60's graduating classes that say, "hey we don't want to hear that old stuff", play us some new music, you know like Old Time Rock n Roll or Love Shack. I kid you not it really happened. :nutz

First things first, why don't you call yourself Jack Daniels. I use to love Jack, it was my favorite. Found out at my age it was time to give it up.

Well anyway, old school is right. I started in 78 fresh out of high school at a new roller rink in town. One day the DJ didn't show up. I told the owner, hey I can do that for ya. The rest is history. While there I had a short lived 3 year career as a competative roller skater. I lived in the rink 7 days a week for almost 3 years between practice and running sessions. It gave me a great jump on DJing. So Ya, I guess i'm old school with out the K.

I was a pretty good roller rink disco dancer back then too, when roller skates had four wheels each, not blades. The only "competition" I was ever in was street roller hockey -- since I could skate backwards almost as fast as forwards, I played defenseman, even at just over 5' tall. At my age now, I stick to softball, and I still can't avoid getting hurt.

Hey DJ Donny,
Yes those were the days. I know this isn't about the 10th reuions but yesterday I was in a welcome Santa Christmas parade that my fellow fighters and I have put on for many years now. I lead the parade just after the fire trucks go by. Every year I roller skate about 2 mile, my truck wired for sound and my wife in tow in a frosty suit. It's all way a big hit. The kids know me as the Roller Skating Firefighter DJ. I don't think my knees will last another parade. I am not walking to well today. :cuss Aging sucks! Roller skating will never be the same but it is my roots and a memory I'll always have. We use to play roller hockey also, in the parking lots at the stores because back then stores were closed on Sundays. :tup
