Erik,

Why don't you want to do this event?

Erik,

Why don't you want to do this event?
I think its pretty obvious WHY:

Eric is a senior in HS, and is smart enough to know when he's in over his head.

There is a REASON why experienced DJs charge $2000 and up for Mitzvah events:

they are a royal PAIN IN THE AZZ!!!

1) their type of people are extremely difficult to deal with (I can say this coming from this particular ethnic background having the name 'Cohen')

2) it is very hard to get 13 year old BOYS to dance

3) often times, the music requests are going to be things that Eric, a HS senior, will not have (ie. Fiddler on The Roof soundtrack, Benny Goodman, Klezmer music, Hava Nagila, etc).

I just talked with Erik this morning. It's not that he doesn't want to do them...he is inexperienced with them and as a pofessional wants to do them right.

He wants to assist on a few before trying them on his own.

Matt, you're right they can be a pain in the bottom, but very rewarding if done correctly too.

I may step up to a milestone I never thought possible at the end of the weekend. We'll see...

I'm thinking about no longer accepting mitzvahs. First, there's the first two legitimate reasons DJMC mentioned (I do have the music they want, so 3's not an issue). Then there's:

4) I really didn't get into this business to become Julie the cruise director and organize children's games. (PS, that's a reference to Love Boat for those of you too young to remember.)

5) My partner and I are thinking of changing our company name to "Donny and Charlie's Traveling Musical Baby-sitting Service".

Sorry I didnt reply right away. Been busy, but yes I did talk to DJ Maine recently. In response to DJ MC, all are right but number 3 :-P Its funny but yes, I have actually more or that type of music than any other music. "3) often times, the music requests are going to be things that Eric, a HS senior, will not have (ie. Fiddler on The Roof soundtrack, Benny Goodman, Klezmer music, Hava Nagila, etc). " Another factoid, I love Fiddler On The Roof!!!!!!! (I must say i am a strange teenager, for I also like classics like Sound Of Music)

As far as my response to why I dont want to do them. Yes, I am a senior in High School, does that mean I don't want to do them bc of it, nope. But the inexperience is what really matters. DJ Maine hit it right. I am inexperienced and as a professional I want to make sure it is done professionally and people are going to get what they pay for. If I were a mother or father payin for a DJ and I got someone like me who is inexperienced and did a bad job then I would be very upset. Plus As a professional, I wouldn't want to ruin my business reputation. I would rather take the cut in pay to make other people happy. Its all about pleasing the customers.

Erik

No....not strange at all, just not "ordinary" I guess......my daughter Allie (a professional singer) is 13 and her favorite musical is TSOM. She has all the Julie Andrews singing parts memorized....
