Maybe I'm not best placed to contribute to this string, but I thought I'd offer my comment.
I'm not a big fan of trade associations, especially conglomerates who come together to protect their own existance. I agree with the principle that DJ's should operate their businesses in a professional & ethical way, but don't think that 'badges' really make much differences when it comes to selection by customers. Customers make decisions based on personal referrals, personal experiences, and recommendations.
DJ Trade associations may provide information, trade shows, discounts etc, but they do very little to help us generate business. That comes from hard work, dedication and successful marketing of our businesses.
I avoid any club that asks me for money to be a member. ( Maybe thats just me being Scottish, of course!)
