I prefer 3.5" Maxtor 7200 RPM HDDs with a minimum of 4MB Caching.
I prefer to have these HDDs housed in a a "hot swap" port, similar to what Rick has mentioned earlier in the thread, mounted in one of the external 5.25" bays. As Rick mentioned, these run off of internal power, usually include one or more additional fans for cooling purposes and allow easy replacement or "swapping" of drives should the need arise.
I prefer using Windows 2000 Professional SP4 for the OS (less virtual / RAM memory addressing problems than XP has).
I prefer using CDex to Rip & Encode my MP3s at 192 Kbps CBR.
I prefer to use PCDJ Red for mixing software, however I am looking at upgrading to at least Red VRM in the near future. I am also just beginning to play around with FLAC which is looking like a very promising file format... It's amazing what you find when you start writing a book! lol
