Editorial:
The evloution of technology is ineivitable. Technological development is the driving force of our economy along with the services industry explosion. To ignore or fail to fully understand and embrace these recently available tools is perhaps a slow long term form of business suicide.
In terms of DJ-world and technology, it is now possible for a person who gets laid off on a Wednesday to be a DJ by Saturday, using nothing but a credit card and an internet connection. What used to take years and money for the building of a music library can now be done overnight. Let's not forget the printer either, a well designed and clever homemade business card that says "Professional DJ".
Technology is only as good as the talent using it. Not matter what, talent rises to the top. Technology will assist the talented to get better, faster, more responsive, and remove or change the cumbersome roadblocks heretofore immovable. Technology will not make someone in DJ-world talented.
Yes, there has been an influx of laptop newbees. What's more frightening is the number of established DJs losing business because they have fallen behind the technological times. Existing established talent, fearful or ignorant of employing the latest technoloy may perhaps be more responsible for the slowly returning of the industry into a commodity priced service than are the newbees.
Learn, accept, embrace, and utilize today's technology today or face decline or eventual extinction. Someone else in your market is already beating you to it.
